Anybody else having problems getting AVG 8.0 Free to update?

Yeah, but the XP firewall is only one-way. Won't the "normal" user be vulnerable to that?

If you let malicious software into your machine, and let it run, it can then access the internet. Now, I rather feel that blocking such access with a firewall is very much "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted".

Actually, it's worse. If malicious software is already running inside your machine, I can see no great problem in it killing your firewall. After all, 99.99% of Windows users run with administrator privileges, all the time, as security on Windows is so badly kludged.

As for AVG not updating I tried downloading the new freeware version and was unsuccessful however, avast is a good alternative being careful when downloading is even better
