I JUST came ffrom Wal-Mart! And I must say that your observations also apply to my area as well. People seem very fond of parking their carts SIDEWAYS across the aisle so it blocks the whole walkway and there's no way you can pass.
People just stand in the middle of the aisle, small-talking, and god-forbid you politely say, "Excuse me, could you please move your cart so I can get through?" Then they get all huffy and either move their cart while mumbling, or they're rude enough to just stubbornly stand there and not budge at all!
It is just sooo frustrating! That's why I always make sure to park my cart along the side, to at least leave a passing lane.

I walk fast most of the time, too.

I am a really fast walker all the time no matter where I am going. I also have really good stamina as I run cross country and track and I was the best runner on my cross country team. I also have alot of physical strength, people would tell me I have retared strength because I don't look strong and I could lift alot more than they expected.

I was actually a slow walker until last July when the first fellow aspie I ever met in real life showed me how to walk properly. I was hanging out with her all day, and I asked her to deconstruct me as she went. At one point she broke down the way that I walked. Apparently my hips weren't moving at all. You're supposed to put your butt and hips into it. You're also supposed to stand up straight with your head up.

Once I learned how to walk properly, at the age of 28, I became a fast walker.

I also walk long distances routinely. This is because I've never had a car, grew up in Los Angeles (nobody walks in L.A. ... except me!), and currently live in Las Vegas (which is built like L.A., though not nearly as big). In particular, I grew up in the northern mountainous area of L.A. County, and frequently went on long hikes, off trail, over extremely rugged terrain. I probably walk faster over loose rocks and loose dirt than I do on a flat sidewalk.

I'm a fast walker, but not unusually fast.
Both my mother and I are fast walkers. We walk everywhere fast regardless of location or desired destination. I've been brought up in a family which loathes laziness and ironically, most of the time I sit around home and do nothing, but when it comes time that I need to go somewhere, I do it fast paced.

I stroll. The faster I go = higher chances of me falling or running into something. So I stroll; except when I'm late, then I run.

Me too! I am usually moving twice as fast as anyone around me and it has nothing to do with how much I want to get where I am going; it's just natural to me.

I never thought of it as being an autistic trait before. No "expert" has ever identified it as such (as far as I know,) though it is begining to appear that it is.

Someone is going to have to do a study on this.

I do too, unless I'm very tired or relaxed. I walk faster than the average person a foot and a half taller than me.

haha, awesome.

yeah, it doesnt matter how fast someone is walking, my wife tells me I have to walk faster. Bumping shoulders or not having space drives me nuts.

at the beginning of this post there was lot of talk about how annoying slow dawdlers are - I have the same feelings - most people just seem to meander along and are not really conscious of anything around them, bumping into other people and things - it annoys the hell out of me and I often mutter under my breath at them or just go steaming through them - I can only walk fast really - but that's partly because I have particular spinal problems so if I have to walk slow because they are people in the way it's really painful - then it gets too painful and i can't walk at all - I'm sure this inability to walk / move at my own fast pace - except for a quick burst - causes me immense frustration and then is followed by very high anxiety levels - I have to be able to make a get - away and if it's to painful - then kaboom - meltdown approaches.

Mainly though - damm those dawdlers!

Sometimes I walk really fast and other times I walk slower than a sloth.

I'm a veeeery fast walker. I'm not one for matching the walking pace of others, either.
