I'm predominantly a singer, but I also play piano, cornet (NOT the ice-cream  ), horn, flute, guitar and drums. Some - very obviously - much better than others. :P

Yourselves?

I've been playing guitar on and off since I was in my teens, but seriously for the last four years or so. I did my first open mic the other week and I got invited back, so I figure I must be doing something right! (How well do I play? As a great man once said..."I can't play like Segovia. The flip side of that is that Segovia could probably never have played like me." )

Also, 'cello. I have lessons every two weeks and I'm currently working on my first extension, which - while I'm not going in for exams at the moment - I'm told is around a grade 2 level. I've only been playing since the start of this year, so that's pretty good progress, but my teacher tells me adult learner quite often learn quickly enough to skip some grades. Plus, the fact that I already play guitar means my left hand is quite strong, which is also an advantage.

I learned to play the flute at school (got to grade 7, but failed it twice, mainly because of terrible nerves during each exam). Then I let it go. Then at university I got into folk music - playing and dancing and took it up again. Then let it go. Now I play in an amateur big jazz band - cant improvise, so just do the basics.

When I was 18 I really wanted to learn guitar - I taught myself rudimentaries of classical guitar aswell as chords etc, but despite several years of playing obsessionally every day (although it became something I dreaded instead of enjoyed) I never got to the stage of being able to play even one simple tune without music. And as for singing along at the same time (originally a dream), forget it.

Last summer I decided I wanted to learn violin and started taking lessons. I seem to have improved fairly well in the past year (perhaps I should have taken guitar lessons), and have gone back to playing folk music - on the violin this time, because I really like the tunes. These I can remember without needing the music in front of me.

I also did learn piano for a couple of years as a child, but that was my mother's dream, not mine, and I never really got the hand of the bass clef - cant remember a thing now.

I don't make normal music. I play computer, amplifiers, microphones, radio, tape, and about anything that makes sound.

I'm primarily a flute player and singer, and love performing as either. I also play fiddle, but not yet in front of people.

All I do is sing. I've never played an instrument.

I play bass, guitar and I can also work my way around a drum kit. I have a Djembé drum as well, but that only gets used when I have a big group of players to play it with. I'm currently learning how to circular breathe so that I can play my didgeridoo, but that's going nowhere fast.

On a similar note, does anyone know of anywhere I can ge a set of Uillean pipes from?
