It's not even close to being that high here in Oregon. I heard it's about $4 a gallon. At Walgreens, I see it for $3 something.

It's about $3.80 a gallon here.

I've also noticed that gasoline is higher in rural areas than in big cities.

For instance, when I was on vacation last week, gasoline was higher in the town of La Grange (halfway between Houston and Austin) then when we stopped again in Austin.

I remember when I started driving, gas was about $1.15/gallon. That was only 10 years ago. 8O

Those prices look cheap to me, be glad
you`re not living here :)
milk: $10 for a gallon at least
cigarettes: around $17 for a 20-pack
gas, 95 unleaded: around $11 for a gallon
one bread: around $2-3
this is not the place to be poor i guess.

and medicines... easily $800 a month if you need
something on a regular basis, that is so very expensive
here, pills and stuff

rent a house/apartment: around $1000-1200 a month usually,
for something not to big, just a place to live (cheaper in the
countryside) Biggest rent i`ve had was $2,800 a month for the
upper floor of a big house right ouside a major city, and that wasn`t
even for the whole house, just 4-5 rooms on the top floor - sick prices.
One time i payed $800 a month for a 12 square meters room 8O thats small!
it was so small i had to go into the hallway outside the room to change my mind.
And that was not even considered as being expensive.

And car repairs... i almost get tears in my eyes just thinking about it, the mechanics
take $120 an hour for the work, and the parts are very very expensive. Fixed the
exhaustpipes on my car a while ago, some small leaks due to off road driving,
total came to $850 8O 8O 8O and thats just insane, they had the car for 2 hours
and it was a very easy job. And the price for a new, nice car: easily $100,000 8O its just insane, think we have the most expensive cars anywhere, theres about 15 different
taxes just to own a car, and then some more if you want to drive it, and then some more
on top of that if you want to use the public roads, and then.. 8O omg.. maybe i should move :) No wait, better idea, i break out and start my own country :) i`ve had
enough of this crap hehe *making grand plans*

In winter, cereal only cost me pennies for each serving. I buy steel cut oats in bulk. It's as low as 50 cents per pound,or about 80 cents when it's full price. It's one of the true bargains to be found in southern California. Only problem is...when it's close to triple digits, it's just not appealing to eat. Have resorted to protein drinks or cold cereal for the duration of summer. I love bell peppers & salads & the cost is eye popping! It's a minimum of 3 dollars for a bag of salad? Peppers have been running close to a buck a piece here. 8O Luckily, the dollar store is helping me get my fixes at reasonable prices.

Have noticed that the only thing dropping locally in price is gas at the local Sam's Club. It's just above $4.00 per gallon...that's for the lower octane not the premium stuff. Never thought I'd see the day when I get excited about paying 4 bucks a gallon!
