I just went to a yahoo chat room for parenting.
this is the first time I went to one of those on yahoo.
I thought perhaps I would hear some good chat and advice and personal experiences on parenting,
when I got there most everyone was talking like a dating chat room.
I asked if there was ANY parents at all in the chat room.
next thing I know this man replied in a personal PM,
he wanted to know what kind of activities I enjoyed with my son,
I said ya we go to the park and all kinds of fun activities.
then I asked him what he done with his son,
he started in on all kinds of sex crap, god I was so appalled and sick I got furious.
I was about to start in on giving this person a piece of my mind and then my son came
in wanting attention and turned off my computer.
I am still fuming. grrrrrrrr.

I'd be fuming, too.

I suggest reporting the group to Yahoo.

Some groups do get taken over by perverts when the original founders basically abandon them. Really a shame, and totally a trap for the unwary.

This is why I stopped even trying chat rooms years ago. I found that often, these rooms where full of people who weren't there for the original intention of the group -- they were there to either do what this man did with you, or to rant, or to be obscene. I rarely was ever in a chat room where people were there to have discussions based on the original premise.

I personally hate chatrooms, and I even have my own opinions about the groups through yahoo. There are plenty of other places where you could get good advice on parenting a child under the spectrum. You may want to do a good search on "autism parent support" or something, you may find some good and useful things.

Actually I got dozens of bookmarks to forums on and about parenting.
I was just wanting to see if I could find something a little more interactive.

Adrenaline,

Given your avatar, your rant is kind of ironic! The group might have been taken over, highjacked, or created to do things such as you experienced. Chatrooms are RARELY worthwhile.

I've found that just about every yahoo chatroom is like that now.

I prefer meeting my chat friends on site likes these rather than chat rooms

Things were different 10 years ago when that response was written.

It drives me nuts how these old threads resurface. It comes from a "what are people talking about now" type page, is that correct? I never come in that way, but that is what I've been told.
