For those as obsessed with 1984 as me, can you tell me (off the top of your head, no cheating!) where in the book those descriptors are found and defined, and whether they are terms of praise or abuse? Order of Conspicuous Merit for the first person to answer correctly! But remember no cheating... Big Brother is watching you.
Is there crimethink going on here?

no speak newspeak plusgood...
Yesterday, Donald Luskin (one of McCain's economic advisers) said the economy is really doing quite well, and anyone who says otherwise is a weak-minded pessimist: housing prices are going up, foreclosures aren't really a problem, banks are basically sound, we are no where close to being in a recession. The idea that times are difficult are purely psychological, my fellow Americans.

I interpreted monty's remarks to be sarcastic... of course I could be wrong.

I was paraphrasing what McCain's advisor said - I don't agree with it at all. It could be construed as irony - the literal words he spoke are the opposite of what many believe to be true. But some people do believe what he said. Was I being sarcastic? Amazingly, no - although I have disbelief and contempt for what Luskin said, I was simply trying to characterize what he said. Similar to what Phil Gramm said a few months back about America being a nation of whiners when it comes to the economy ... no need to be sarcastic - just quote the man accurately.

(edited - ok, I am assuming the highlighted text means you don't think banks are sound.)

Scott Adams (the guy that wrote Dilbert) spent his own coin to find out what a sampling of 500 economists think on the question of Obama vs. McCain. Here are the results:
