My hp laptop

I think something is wrong with my battery. I can get it to power up if I play with it for awhile.
I tried cleaning it with a damp rag. And it was a little dirty. Are there places where you can take your computers to be cleaned professionally? I own pets and my house is always dusty!! !
Any suggestions for new laptops? I am thinking about getting a brand new laptop computer and try to up kept this one for my parents other home or keep a newer laptop there when I get a room there. I want to know what your luck with macs is. My friend always says there better.
