Do aspies grow slower, age slower and live longer? I'm 31 but look about 14.

my family has an average life span of around 57 on both sides so I guess that kinda rules out long life for me. I do look very young for my age though, and always have been.

I am very young looking (I look like I'm in my 20s, although I will be 44 in November).

I am short (5' 1")

The life expectancy in my family is very long. There have been many members who lived into their 80s and 90s. I even had a cat that lived to be 20 (in human terms, that would be 98 years old.)

I don't know. Aspies have a lot of stress in their lives typically, moreso than others not on the spectrum. If anything, we might look younger on the outside, but within, our health starts deteriorating faster. I've already started running into health problems not normal for someone my age.

I look 15, and I hope to live as long as my great granpa who lived 105.

I doubt it. I grew faster and aged (mentally) faster than most people I went to school with. I really can't say about living longer yet.

evidently I don't look 50, but I sure feel it sometimes...;)

Dad's still alive (80), had a great-aunt (don't know if she was AS or not, she predated the 20th Century), Grandpa fought in WWI, Dad missed WWII by a week (turned 18 in 1945). Don't know how much more I'm good for...;)

I don't think any studies have been done on Aspie longevity, but Autistics are said to have a short life span. I don't see why it matters. Personally I can't wait to die because this life and being an Aspie sucks living such a lonely life and being hated and made fun of by everyone.

In the papers and articles I've read about ASD's, I've read nothing to suggest that those with Aspergers have a lifespan or appearance that's different from the norm.

I'd say shorter, due to the stress.

I had deep wrinkles at fifteen. That kind of living takes a huge toll on you. Then again, I had an unusual amount of tragedies in my life.

I don't know about aging/growing slower, but I highly doubt we live longer, since a lot of us are so busy with other stuff that we ignore our own health until we have to be dragged to the hospital. That's what happens with me, anyway. I just kept expecting my body to go on like it always has until the day I suddenly dropped dead. It doesn't work that way, as I recently found out. Ignoring one's body in favor of pursuits of the mind will eventually take its toll.

I was definitely slower to mature both physically and socially, than my classmates. As for the old age, I'm not sure. I don't know of any older relatives that might have had AS. :chin:

It can be so, I think. I also asked myself this question

The good part about it is that my classmates basically, still have the same mentality that they did when we graduated, while I have grown by leaps and bounds. :)

This is a popular topic that crops up every now and then.

Yeah, I look young for my age, but when I was a teenager I looked older than my age (handy).

I have aspects of character that seem to be the attitudes of a much older person, but somethings are only now developing that should have developed during my teenage years.

I also have adult acne. I didn't get teenage acne. Win some, lose some.
