Why they pay them so much is really beyond me. They're competent singers, actors, athletes; they should be paid a good deal because of their skill (in most cases), like a good engineer or a successful business owner... but the insane amounts they get just don't reflect that. It's like they're being paid for just being famous.

yes, in fact lotteries are often called 'taxes on stupidity'

The 'common' explanation is that over several decades, a normal career will pay a small amount each month. Over a lifetime, it actually does pile up.

For sports, and 'accelerated' carreers, you get a lifetime's worth of money in only a few years. Whether it's ethical or not, I dunno.

Two word: Paris Hilton.

Does that answer your question?

The only smart one in the Hilton family is Barron, the Hilton sister's grandfather.
He pledged is estate to his charity foundation instead of to his spoilt grandkids

My lawyer never reviewed my case before court. It was crazy, my judge acted like he knew more about what was going on than my own attorney. I actually had an opportunity to sue him but I didn't. He had my files mixed up with another client!! ! I never knew people were allowed to be THAT stupid! I mean I could've been someone accused of murder!

See all you need to do is become "academically smart" in a field that is in great demand. You get your little piece of paper called a degree and then you're off in the real world ready to make some real money.

I haven't been in a courtroom often, but one of the few times I was, one of the lawyers (representing a woman with no money to hire a better one) was that bad. The judge had to keep prompting her to cite laws and such, and the person sitting next to me, who was a layperson, knew more of the relevant law than the lawyer did. Meanwhile another lawyer there (for a corporation, of course) was slimy and underhanded but smart enough to get a case together that would be convincing. It was painful to watch.

I forgot Professional Athletes. They get paid such outrageous sums for playing a sport well. They hire a staff of people to keep magazines from interviewing them and revealing how stupid they truly are.

Work in a garage like mine, and you will confirm that there are, in fact, idiots that make decent money as well as their coworkers.

"Is that (road name not specified) right there?" And this actualy happens alot, despite the three foot sign 20 feet ahead of them, saying in big, bold white letters, the street name.

I'm just a cashier, and last night I got.. "Why am I having a ticket violation for parking on the line?! I just parked on the line, dammit!"

Amung others things.. :?
