I use to love the History Channel. But now, it seems like they don't show any shows about History. They have shows like, Shadow Force. Heavy Metal, UFO Files, UFO Hunters, Trains, and stuff like that. They also have hours and hours of paid commerical advertising.

I think it is rare to catch anything really directly about History on the channel. And usually, these programs are only about WWII if they are, as though the US;s only history existed between 1941 and 1946.

How about a program that covers each President. each depression and recession. How about a program that talks about each war (besides WWII). How about a program that talks about the history of the Gun. I would also like to see a program about the History of household items and what families in the past did during their day.

Is anyone else annoyed by the History channel not producing History programs?

This kinda reminds me how MTV used to play music. :D It must be a ratings thing I guess.

I was just gonna say that. Don't worry, eventually they will come out with History 2, then a few years later after that's been compromised, History 3

I would think that less people would watch the History Channel if it showed less History stuff. I do think it is about money though. Maybe, if that is what they are all about, they should show porn, that would get them better rating too.

I think a law should be passed to limit how many hours of paid programming a pay television cable channel can show.

If you've ever seen the film Idiocracy, you'll understand.

I liked the History Channel better how it used to be too. Their "Gangland" series is very good though.

Yeah, it's really disappointing.

It makes me very sad, too. It's why I bought extended cable!! ! And the Bio channel doesn't do any bios on anyone of significance, just pop stars. Of dubious talent. WTF?

On the History Channel - the last bio I did see left me shaking my head. It was about the English succession and they were trotting through at a pretty fast pace ... said that Elizabeth I came to the throne after Mary, Queen of Scots, died suddenly. 8O

Well, yeah, I guess you COULD say that! I almost choked on my tea laughing.

I had caught a few more of those gaffes in that and other programs on the channel in the recent past, and have pretty much given up on it. Between "UFO Aliens Inhabiting Idaho Chasers" and a rather... blatant... lack of accuracy/quality in the recent histories, I'm going back to the library for my entertainment.

I've been disappointed with this downward spiral for the last couple of years.

I mean, it's either pirates, aliens, Nostradamus, the Apocolypse, or Nazis. Or worse things like alien pirate Nazis who know the future of the end of the world(scary stuff)!

But yeah, Gangland is well made and informative, and is the last History channel show I watch regularly besides Modern Marvels since they got rid of Mail Call.

The channel's name is metadescriptive.

Probably because History is so disturbing. Basically history whether European or American is summed up by the white skin people always kill the dark skin people and take over their homeland.

There were plenty of boring history shows around Thanksgiving on the History channel. Personally I would rather see the UFO shows except they are always re-runs now and their best show is MonsterQuest. The topics they discuss ARE part of history by the way. History does not have to be stories of white men in white powdered wigs and sissy tights in order to be "history". There is modern history such as the UFO's of the 70's show that is currently playing.

Their new show Cities of the Underworld is very interesting and definitely pertains to history.

But Ticker, white men in powdered wigs and sissy tights are fun!

I think it's not as much a down-spiralling of the History Channel is TV itself. Cartoon Network, Discovery, they're all going worse. Cartoon Network doesn't show anything good. Discovery only has stuff about either motorbikes or cars, and the History Channel is letting in disgusting things like "Axmen" and "Ice Road Truckers".

Now, I like watching shows about World War II. I enjoy the so manieth epsiode of Battlefield (that's a Discovery Civilisation show really, but that's not the point) about X battle in either Europe, North Africa, or the Pacific.

There's also the ancient world, and the American Revolution, but this comes on less often. The thing is that it's all about war. And war is jolly fun, or at least it makes for great television. The History Channel is declining, but it still has some spark left.

I suppose the next thing to die will be the Sci-Fi channel. May God help us all.

I noticed this just recently. The UFO stuff is a joke. Seriously

Happened to TLC too, used to be 'the learning channel' and now it's all fashion and design crap.

It happens with all non-public broadcasting channels.

The learning channel (TLC) used to be all about learning new things. They had interesting documentaries, and other cool shows. Now it is nothing but home designing shows, and other fashion things.

Discovery used to be a nice channel, full of interesting documentaries, now it is things like dirty jobs, crab hunting, ice road trucking, and other stuff like that. I do like mythbusters, but I liked the shows they had before it too.

National geographic has turned into dog whisperer and other shows like that.

History channel has turned into UFOs, and is it real, and other stuff.

So far, the science channel is holding strong, but thats only a matter of time before it collapses, and a new channel comes onto the list.

I consider Nostradamus info as history.... putting that aside, I too get ashamed. The only things I consider worth watching are Jurassic Fight Club, Gangland and that Lost Underworld (or whatever the hell it's called). I'm SO glad I don't see Ice Road Truckers showing much anymore (no offense to those affiliated with that profession). This UFO and Monster Quest crap is beginning to annoy me. I pretty much just watch the Science Channel now...that Dr. Michio Kaku and his shows really pique my interest (btw, I recommend a book of his, called Visions).

The only thing I look forward too on HC as of now is the Ecopolis special theyre going to show.

Very. A lot of channels have let me down. I hardly watch TV anymore.
