I called it 'not being right' from an early age, feeling not like others, or 'a difficulty'. I am self diag - the professsional trick cyclist said my language development was too good, tho he never saw me at school forty years ago or even now among most people apart from fellow dog owners.

I called my ADHD "The gotta's" or "the twitchies"

Let's see, well I called it Goth for awhile, mostly in high school. I pretty much considered it being "different", so I dunno. My dad has Asperger's too and I just thought he was kind of weird. Now everything makes sense, since we've both been diagnosed.

Does denial of an informal assessment then shock rediscovery as an adult count?

I called it my world.

Other people being very silly and not practical/sensible.

Other people getting upset over minor things and obsessing unnecessarily over fashions that harmed the body and uncomfortable clothes.

My dreams.

My mission.

My brain.

Minding my own business.

Getting on with the task at hand and not wasting time.

My nice time focussing on patterns in the furniture and details on the beach on holiday.

Other people being deliberately ambiguous and not issuing clear instructions.

Other people being nasty to me.

Ostracism and other people's snobbery.

Scientific observation.

Good honest, hard work.

Being inventive.

Being creative.

Not submitting to peer pressure.

Being witty and humorous.

Being an individual and treating everyone else as individuals.

For me it was the reason I asked questions. I knew I was different and it was sometimes good and sometimes bad. I'd call my lack of coordination a "slow wrist" when asked why I only got half the answers written down in a test situation. Because I KNEW all of the answers, :D especially in maths classes. (My school didn't realise this, so I got put in the bottom class.)

I was most oblivious of what caused my differences before I knew of autism.

Yes, I named it. When I was 6 years old, I really started to realize I was abnormal and different from the other kids. Later on I noticed it more and more, and I began to see a pattern in my awkwardness more with the years. I called my weirdness ''Awkwardness on mostly the social level''. I knew I was weird, but it took years to think I might be an autist. I knew I had an autist in my family, but I never spoke him or had any contact with him. Now I know my father is autistic. I came to know about AS by coincidence, i saw a link on a site about it, and I was wondering what this syndrome was. I've gotten myself self-diagnosed before I got the official one.
