I live in a rural area where the only internet we can get is by sattilite, and we can only get 1 provider since they have a monopoly in my area, they have this stupid fair access policy where no more than 300MB can pass through the bandwidth. I'm on here, my mom works from home, and my brothers on sometimes, adds up real quick, even before it gets close to 300 megabytes it gets really slow. I can't watch more than a few Youtube videos, or download large files or any pictures or graphics or nothing. It's bull****! Anyone else have this?

Thats 300mb per day? I've managed with worse bandwidth limits.

I was using this crappy sprint smartview like... cellphone internet crap(not actually on a cellphone.. but it was the same sort of technology or something). There was a cap of something like 4GB per month. It sucked but... I managed to get by. It would have been a lot more tolerable if I actually got decent speeds with it. It was really annoying trying to load a page and getting "Page not found" displayed when I knew very well that there was nothing wrong with the site I was trying to visit. And I shared it with 4 other people

Oh, that sucks, but youtube just eats this up after so many videos. The longer ones are the worst.

1 time i tried to download some 500+ MB file, I tried all day, and I couldn't understand what the problem was, it kept stopping after a certian point. Eventually my parents told me that we had that policy, turns out I crashed the internet for 3 days.

Do you have cell phone service in your area? Some cell phone companies are deploying similar technology that lets you surf via their signal.

You should be able to get a T1 in your area, but you're probably not going to want to pay for it. Which ILEC (land-line telephony company) serves your area?

You cant get DSL? I was thinking you can get DSL pretty much any place where you have a phone line. You have a phone line dont you? 8O

I am always complaining that my DSL is slow at 1.5mbs, heck, with your 300mb limit, whats next a roll back to dial up

I lived miles in the country once, and we got DSL. Of course, when it rained, we got really bad service, but it could be done.

We looked into satellite Internet, and it was going to cost $1,500 from Dish Network, so we said 'intercourse THAT penguin'...;)

This is not true in many rural areas in the west. The population density is so low that most ILECs can't justify the cost of putting in the DSLAM. This is actually something my company does - we put DSLAMs in rural areas and lease the ILEC's wires to deliver voice and data to the end-users. Other companies are doing the same but using wireless rather than the existing copper infrastructure.

It's usually easier to get a T1 running on HDSL4. It allows for repeaters to boost the signal over longer distances. Similar to a 144kbps IDSL circuit but they run at 1.5mpbs. But T1s usually have a high monthly cost.

Okay, nice to know, I was more less asking if he tried it, than stating a fact. I admit I dont know much about this :D
