Do you ever find yourself making literal sarcasms for fun?

My mom asked me to get her a pop (soda) from the refrigerator the other day and I responded "I'll give you a pop alright, a pop in the head!" and I chuckled knowingly. Or another time my sister's friend was over at my house picking up something and she left her car on outside, so I asked her "Do you know your car is running?" and she responded "yes" and then I said "well you better catch it before it runs away!"

When I was younger I used to take things very literally. So now that I'm older I think it's funny to make literal sarcasms like the ones above, regardless of whether or not anyone else thinks they are funny.

What makes the more funny, is the fact that they are not funny lol.

Yelp, same here. I've also gotten really good at telling fibs and making up stories, while keeping a straight face. People that don't know me, aren't sure how to take me at first. :D

I am also good at using metaphors. When someone makes a comment, it sparks all kinds of wild ideas in my head...I get called a smarta$$ at least once a week. :D

I think, etymologically speaking, literal sarcasm would include flaying of flesh, and I'm just not into that.
Uh, I mean...

Wow! I've learned a lot about sarcasm here that I never knew before.

THAT is sarcasm.

Can't believe nobody ever caught the fact that the examples the OP used are not sarcasm. They are puns.

And YES, I am fully aware I've just resurrected this thread from nine years ago. So shoot me. :P

(For what it's worth, this was pulled from the "Similar Posts" section at the bottom of this page so it seems obvious to me that Alex doesn't really care much about necro threads being resurrected as long as they aren't old contentious fights. Who really wants those brought back?)
