Is tiredness a common trait of AS children? My 8 yr old son seems to have several "off" days a week due to tiredness, where he will just refuse to do school work for long periods of time and zone out. Sometimes it may be associated with a late night or over-socialisation, but often it just seems random. Anyone else?

Wow thanks for the link. Interesting stuff. I notice I need a lot more sleep than most people, so does my brother.

Aspies need time and space to themselves to regroup and recharge when we are over-stimulated. I have to withdraw from people and immerse myself in special interest from time to time (like every day, sometimes several times a day!)

My BF on the other hand, will just lie down and go to sleep. He also has AS and he will nap 1-3x a day to cope with over-stimulation.

I will often close my eyes and hold my head in my hands, just breathe and blank out when I can't be alone when I need to be and I'm tired from over-stimulation.

I think tiredness is normal for aspies. Without coping with over-stimulation and the exhaustion it can bring, meltdowns are inevitable.

i agree, most of the time i am quite tired...just getting my head around a simple day can make me sleepy and confused....

i usually try to sleep atleast 10 hours per day, but since i dont sleep very well i think i am down to around 6-8 and i really notice when i dont get enough sleep, but i cannot do much about it since i am a full time student and need to study ect...

could try Melatonin tablets, i have them, but have not dared to try them yet...

this is funny becasue my son has stared to do this too, he has been getting the same amount of sleep as the beginning of the year but is always saying he is tired.
he gets about 10-11 hours of sleep per night and won't sleep much past that even when he doesn't have to be up.
earlier bedtime for him is not necessarily an option becasue by the time i am off of work adn home adn they are fed he has only about half an hour of down time at home which i find he needs before going to bed.
yeah i can see the shut down thing as it often occurs at school when he is asked to do something difficult for him.
