That's a tough question; I can only speak from my experience. As far as I know, all of my relationships have been with individuals not on the spectrum; when I learned my son was diagnosed as HFA roughly one year ago, I discovered that my mannerisms and characteristics fall on the spectrum as well. The relationships I had with women who were perhaps what some might consider 'classic NT' personalities had good beginnings, but inevitably disintegrated painfully after the passage of time. My fiance is not on the spectrum; she is incredibly deft in interacting with others - but she has faced her own set of challenges and has a degree of understanding, compassion and patience that is not necessarily a common quality. Without some sort of personal experience, I can see where there would a likelihood where women would be frustrated with an unfamiliar form of behavior, different priorities and thought processes.
