Anyone else hate 1st April?

I was reading the Metro newspaper yesterday on the bus and it had an article on all these interesting news stories that were in fact not true.

I'm really gullible for taking things literally.

Only when I'm not pranking somebody.
I got fooled good this year.
I'll show em next year.

Yesterday was a lot of fun. I got pranked a lot by the threads on here
Even youtube was funny, they had words upside down and the videos.
I don't take it personally because others fell for it too like I thought for a moment Alex was going to start charging membership fee or charging ten cents per post and then on another board I saw a thread about pampers size 8 Pampers going to come out and I was like "Oh great, they are going to make a bigger size baby diapers for lazy parents or the kids are even fatter" but it turned out to be an April Fools Joke.

I pulled my own too but I must be a really bad liar because I only got one reply. At least I got more responses on another board.

Maybe it's just not a cool thing here in New Zealand. No one even talked about April Fools except for people talking about Conficker.

I don't hate April 1st, but only because I don't run into enough of the April Fool's Joke stuff. I do really dislike that kind of thing, for the most part.

I think April Fool's day is awful, and always have, just as I've always considered the majority of practical jokes mean-spirited and in bad taste. People making fools of THEMSELVES is funny. Making fools of other, unsuspecting people is just plain MEAN.

This is especially true at the workplace. I gave people the heads up on Monday that they wouldn't be April Fooling me if they at all valued their physical well-being, but of course that didn't stop them from doing it to other people. The day was entirely unproductive because of it, and even I wasn't being productive, because despite no one pranking me, I wasn't taking anything anyone told me at face value, which wasted a whole lot of time. And this is a big NYC law firm I'm talking about....jeez....

I'm really glad they didn't target you, though. That shows real consideration.

A good April Fool's joke, I think, is the sort that's just transparent enough that people will not be fooled for more than half a second or so; and funny enough that after that half-second, they'll start laughing at it. A long-running prank just makes people feel stupid.

Yeah, cute little jokes are perfectly okay by me....in fact, I do that sort of thing to people on a regular basis. It's the long-running ones that you're talking about, as well as stupid practical jokes, and anything that interferes with work, that just aren't right.

There was a great April Fool's story in the Guardian about how that newspaper will be published exclusively on Twitter in the future: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/ap ... technology .

A lot of the really epic pranks are nearly impossible on April Fool's Day, cos everyone's expecting them! WTF's the point of that? If ya wanna be funny, do it on any day BUT April 1, when people aren't on their guard. It's common sense! :P

Last year, on the news they said that penguins in Antarctica were found flying. I believed it but I wasn't shocked at the time.

I'd love to build a flying saucer.

And then dress up into something that would make me look like a complete space alien. None of these humanoid trash -- if you see a humanoid space alien, it isn't a space alien -- just a second rate tv producer's idea of a space alien.

Alternatively, dress up like a big foot. Make people think that there big foots really exist and that they have flying saucers.

Then fly it to some place of ancient cultural significance like Chaco Canyon making sure that you do it when there are people there to see you, but far enough away that they can't get too good a look at you and won't interfere. Walk out of the flying saucer , do some strange ceremony while making sure they get it on video. Then get back into the flying saucer, fly to safety, and destroy the flying saucer so that it could never be found.

Then go home and enjoy all the craziness.

Might be easier to just...make a crop circle, or two.

The ramp up for April Fools Day gets earlier and earlier every year. I was in the supermarket yesterday and they were playing April Fools Days songs over the tannoy. It should be illegal for people to start talking about April Fools Day until after New Years Day. It's over commercialised now anyway.
