We have those a lot where I live, but we call them greenways, instead, and they can also be used for running or riding a bike.

I use these a lot! The trail I use most is a converted rail line. It is very pretty. They turned it into a commuter bike trail that is also used by walkers, runners, and people in motorized scooters and wheelchairs. I like the word "greenway" better though!

I just came in from a 6-miler on a beautiful morning. I am fortunate to live adjacent to the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in California. I hike or run the local trails almost every day. There are just about no bad days out there...

Yes, try to get out for a hike at least once a week. I tend to hike the hard stuff, usually steep mountain trails where very few people have been.
Here is a photo from one of my favorite trails, about a 4 hour hike and very rocky

Beautiful vista. Looks like it's well worth the trek.

I don't often get to use the hiking trails around Corvallis, but I do frequently use the bike and walking paths to get too, from, and through the OSU campus.

The rail-to-trails are nice, and I like to ride them, but sometimes inorder to get away from civilization, you have to find the trails that are lightly used.
The vista was from the midstate trail here in PA, but for a trail like this you have to know how to use a map and compase or GPS.

Heck, that is a average vista, here is my favorite vista to hike to and sit at, and last summer there was a bald eagle nest to the right, and you could watch him flying over that view

Raystown Lake, and that is just a tiny part of the lake in the pic, as there is over a hundred miles of shoreline. Is a nice place to explore

This past Saturday the weather here was beautiful and I decided to skip a 30 minute car ride to the gym from my fiance's house and go for a run instead. He lives in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey....and practically in the middle of the woods. I grew up in the same neighborhood and I know it's not very smart to go running on the main road, because there is hardly a shoulder along the road and the cars travel at 65mph. So I opted to run on the trails.....

I forgot that the soil in the Pine Barrens is very sandy. So I went for a five mile run on practiacally beach sand. The next day my quads, hamstrings and glutes were pretty sore....in addition to that so were my abs and my back....I've never been so sore from a run.....that was definitely a good workout....
