I think that that's probably an Asperger's/Autistic thing, and not necessarily triggered by music.

I got to thinking about this when I was listening to the song "Mutter" by Rammstein a few days ago. Halfway through it, I noticed that I was rocking back and forth to the chorus, and it wasn't intentional; it's like my mind had escaped into its own world, and was finding its comfort zone by rocking my body. That was the first time I became aware of this, which made me wonder "Oh god, have I made a fool of myself in the past in public, rocking unconsciously?" :P

So I thought I'd pose the question, do any of you members here experience something similar? That is, rocking without helping it while listening to a favorite piece of music, preferably sitting down on the floor.

I leave you with that very song which makes *me* rock, and for those of you who play this, tell me honestly if it made you rock too. ^_^

Yes! All the time. I can't help it. I've been doing it since I was a child.

Yes, I rock all the time in my computer chair. In fact, I will not use a computer chair if it doesn't rock. I rock when I'm listening to music, and even when I'm not listening to the music. I even rock in the bed to help me fall asleep. I don't know if I have unconsciously rocked in public. And, quite frankly, I don't care if I have.

would you, could you, rock with a fox.
would you, could you, rock in a box.

would you, could you, rock with a mouse.
would you, could you, rock in a house.

I would rock with a rock.
I would rock in a sock.

When I'm really listening to music (not doing anything meanwhile), then I sometimes notice I rock, and most of the time I just continue it, as long as I'm alone.
Hmm... And "really listening to music" is what I do 80% of the time I hear music.

No, but I do walk around randomly when listening to music.

Usagi...you know, I *figured* you to be an OK-Guy at-heart...but after learning that you and I share a liking of Rammstein (they damn near made it onto my top five list, see other thread re music/demographics on this forum)...now I *know* that you must be an OK-Guy 8)! Hope all is well...and, rock on!! !!

(personal Rammstein favorites: Ich Will, Rosenrot, Hierate Misch, and the all time greatest...Spring! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNXDJlU39Sk

Yeah, i rock back and forth when listening to music, i also tap my foot as well. I'm also constantly jumping from one part of the song to another, and i tend to listen to 10 - 15 second segments of songs repeatitively. I can be a nightmare to listen to music with.

rocking is a constant thing for am,doesn't have to be music or in a certain place, standing up or sitting down etc.

Not heard Rammstein in a long time, but have noticed a uk TV programme [or advert? whatever it is,it's still airing] using du hast as back ground music, and kept wanting to go back to their music again.

^I like "Du Hast". Also "America".
Hmm. Maybe I should check out more of Rammstein's songs.

I rock all the time. i also rock and jump up and down when listening to music, so i bought one of them sensory balls so i do not break a chair. I also got one for my computer because I get so excited when i research and see something interesting that I start rocking and bouncing. I always rock no matter where I am because I am very hyperactive.

I tap my foot to music, but I believe that I conditioned myself to do this (because it's sort of expected in my genre of music.)

I don't rock but I get all dreamy when I listen to music and if someone is calling me while I am lost in a song, they have to call my name out 5 times before I hear them.

Yes, my whole life. It feels good to rock back and forth so I do it naturally.

I usually rock when I am listening to music. But focus on not rocking when in public. I also play music and rock when I'm playing. This can't be helped because I can't focus on both my playing and not rocking at the same time. It probably looks a bit weird and my violin teachers always tried to make me stop.
