I much prefer even numbered years.

Also, a leap year means one more day during ski season! (Don't ruin this one with facts)

Hillary Clinton has released details on her plan for Autism. https://www.hillaryclinton.com/briefing/factsheets/2016/01/05/hillary-clintons-plan-to-support-children-youth-and-adults-living-with-autism-and-their-families/ It seems fairly broad, covering both the need for further research and for adul...

Thanks for sharing, conundrum.

Reminds me a lot of my own outing process a couple of years ago (and, sadly, some aspects of it continue).

I see at the bottom that The Mighty is open for similar submissions. I just might have to contribute my own stuff.

I think there is an unfortunate tendency amongst people on the autistic spectrum to look for an NT to come in on a white horse and save us from our misery. People off the autistic spectrum end up assuming that autistic people cannot speak for themselves and need saviours like Asperger, Lorna Wing, ...

I find that he rejects facts to suit his own moralistic agenda, this tendency could lead to him being manipulated by future trends in thought. I also believe the autistic community will only benefit from a paradigm shift in people's thinking. Silbermann is trapped in the current paradigm of though,...

My answer is no. Your wording on the no option is embarrassing. I'd change it if I were you. Everything should be merit-based. Granted, it's not that way in some cases. Adding any further qualifiers to the Affirmative Action checklist is not how we fix the problem. Between this and your other thread...

Updated info: Dude Shuts Down Gulf Freeway to Propose to Woman Six Months After His Divorce I'm glad the as*hole is facing charges for it. Throw the book at him. Endangering everyone's safety for his narcissistic stunt. Pathetic. Also, note the timeline: Married to Wife 1 in August 2013. Separated f...

...again.
Don't forget that John Elder Robison was previously on the board and resigned because of Suzanne Wright's nonsense.

Hopefully this time they actually listen to the Autistics on the board. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I rather enjoyed my suburban upbringing. It's very comfortable for me, as I can withdraw myself from other people quite easily. I am content with having lived a lot of my life in a car on the way to specific places for specific tasks. Each place had a different task, so I could easily organize my li...

An interesting campaign. Not a big fan of the tag line, though. "It takes brains to solve Autism." Why couldn't they use a less curebie focused tag line of "It takes brains to study Autism?" That, coupled with Autism Speaks's involvement, makes me weary of participating. I'm not ...

I didn't need a diagnosis to be special. My accomplishments have done that on their own. What I did need a diagnosis for was to have an explanation for why nothing seemed to fit throughout the first three decades of my life. After gaining that piece of mind through self-diagnosis (and, eventually, p...

I wish more Autism parents were like you. Then again, being ASD yourself really gives you an empathy for your childrens' experiences, which is something I don't see enough of in the Autism parenting community. Your story is very familiar to me. I see a lot of parallels with my own experience. It wou...

Actually, I was wrong. I may be able to assist. If this service cannot be rendered with expertise within your network, you have a right to have the service paid for outside the network. So be more concerned with adult autism expertise and not with "in network." It will have to be pre-autho...

jedi, I totally understand where you're coming from. I wish I had pointers to help you in your journey, but alas I do not. I can only offer solidarity at this time. The struggle you're having with your family accepting your self-diagnosis is sadly pretty commonplace. Even after getting a professiona...

Thanks, ASPartOfMe, for sharing this. It was a good read that I'm sure I'll think about for a while before knowing what I actually think. Adamantium, I greatly appreciate your response and feel pained that a good portion of it was lost to technical issues. I disagree with your point about the non-li...
