Everyone masks to some degree. It is part of normal social functioning. Altering your behavior in any way to make a performance for another being counts as masking. I have a camera that I sometimes put up in the heavy traffic cat areas in my house. I have noticed that one of my cats changes her beha...

Agree with Mountain Goat 100%. Let this go. The grades don't matter. Finishing matters. Go on to a program afterward that interests you. Maybe an alternative program or doing it part time for awhile would be a good fit. You might be surprised at how many people have this same experience and just don...

Yeah...I still think this is a mistake. Your one path may not work out. I am saying that because I have a family member who is doing pretty much this same thing- focusing on one path, and it's not working out again and again in a disastrous way. You have to stay "limber" as they used to sa...

Reduce the things that are causing the stress so you can function better. You should know that executive functioning stress will cause a person to perform about 8 points lower than normal. So if you are getting a B or C for something that is usually easy for you, that's why. You need to be in a less...

Put the information you need on cards and hard memorize it. Example: My son needed to know how to recognize a prime number. Here are the cards I made him. *Card One front side (term): Natural Number back side (definition): 1) no zeros, 2) not negative, 3) no decimals or fractions *Card Two front sid...

The answer is yes. But you can find ways around that. If your college has teaching assistants, see if your professors can get you time with them. A teaching assistant is going to be either a graduate student who help the professor, or an upper level student. Either way, it would be someone with supe...

Short Fat, I'm sorry to hear about your lonely Thanksgiving. I do think these things matter. Maybe more so in middle age and older than before. My in laws house used to be full of close and extended family. This past Thanksgiving it was just me, my husband, our son, and my in laws, who at this point...

I was watching a youtube video today by Russell Barkley about ADHD young people who self-describe "growing out of" ADHD. He said that in one study, the parents of the same young people were asked about the ADHD symptoms of their young adult children, and they described something like 10 ti...

Not bad. Hey you know, I found out about something the other day accidentally when I was looking up something else. Students who are from households with regular incomes or below average incomes have an easier time getting into elite colleges than students from households with upper level incomes. I...

I graduated Summa Cum Laude four times. Take it from me: No one cares about your GPA. No one at all. Don't worry about it. I also hear you about the depression. I was depressed for the first part of my life. I had a shocking experience and it just went away. I don't think that can be replicated, but...

Ask the teacher/professor "What is most important for me to focus on?" My kid has come home with some frankly idiotic suggestions for how to study effectively, given to him by his teacher and teacher's aides. You can't focus on everything, and rereading something 20 times is not a good use...

hi can you help me to learn facial emotion because I'm the worst person at having the right reactions and emotions at the right time LOL What I found helpful was watching a show with a lot of facial emotions, Seinfeld. It helped that the show is funny. Seinfeld is a great show because it has an ens...

In real life, never. And frankly, these things annoy me as well. When I was a young girl, I was a medical secretary for a number of years. It seemed to me that I was the only person around me who took accuracy seriously. I learned in college that I would be liable for incorrect information on a pati...

This is just a rough time for young autists. Keep helping with the executive stuff. He will straight up not be able to handle things like groceries and laundry if he's dealing with social things and also getting into the groove of his academics. He is more likely to stay in University if you help wi...

This is an excellent thread.

The anecdotes highlight many problems in society today that autists could help with if only allowed.

And they are also funny scenarios to picture. I wish several could be drawn out in comics.
