Do it as soon as you get it. Or do it in a group. I like the idea of going to a different place to do it.

That's an interesting idea. I am actually a member of the Homeschool Recovery group. I was homeschooled in the 1980s and early 1990s as the first generation to legally be able to do it in my state. I hated it. I had to pull my son out for a few years while we got his ADHD medications worked out. It ...

Texasmoney- so pleased you are also a Dale Carnegie fan! I second this, OP! I used to be a hiring manager and my husband is a successful aspie working in the IT field at a admin level. My husband says that trying too hard to fake being neurotypical comes off as creepy. I second this. I also discoura...

Disclosure: I am a sociologist with a concentration in the areas of employment and autistic adults. I am not aware of a scientific way that this could be studied. There would have to be a database somewhere that collected the location, industry, job, and autism status (yes/no) of a large number of p...

Do you guys think that employers are using AI to screen applicants?

What kind of questions are you asked when you apply? Does the process vary?

SHORTFAT, this is starting to sound like OFFICESPACE with MILTON! Sorry for the excitement. I remember you from times gone by and I was pleased to see you here. Not happy to see this situation. I do think it does sound like the Milton situation from Office Space. I mean, obviously, it sounds to me l...

EIGHT YEAR OLDS are harassing you? My goodness no wonder you don't want to leave the house. The hard truth is that people are bothering you because you are "presenting" differently than others and some people feel free to point it out. You can try figuring out what is triggering the attent...

I twigged years later seeing a documentary on the Milat brothers. We actually turned towards Belanglo , but turned back when I complained. Wow. Ahem. Autism blessed me in the mid 1990s when I met my now-husband. I was with my friend and he was with his friend. Our friends knew each other and stoppe...

I have never gone to a Disney park, but I have heard that there is a line skipping option for disabled people. Have you looked into this? If possible, I highly recommend doing it. People I know who have gone say those lines can be hours long.

Have fun!

I'm replying to my own thread with an update in case anyone was interested. He mostly loves being there. He loves being around other kids again. Now that he is heavily medicated with stimulants and blood pressure medication for his anxiety he seems to be able to focus on the teacher and routine pret...

Cloth has come a long way in the past 20 years.

I'm glad to hear this! Yes, please note that my knowledge is out of date! I know cloth diapers help a lot, but I have no idea what is available now. OP, please check out what Devoted has said.

Agree with Tim. Preset communication choices and alternative methods can be very helpful. I would see if your son is open to exploring this. In general, I advocate taking away any stressful environmental factors that do not have to be there. Then find a way to bridge into things that are necessary, ...

You can't really go by those IQ tests. Any test results you should take with a grain of salt. A few years ago they gave my kid some tests, diagnosed him with several things he doesn't have, and advised me to sign him up for disability. I didn't do that because it was horsesh**. It turns out that he'...

I hate to tell you this, but I think you need to try cloth diapers. Any premade diapers are made to suck the moisture away from the skin. This helps the person not get diaper rash or bedsores. But in the case of a small child learning, there isn't an uncomfortable feeling letting them know they need...

He's been out since the early 2nd grade. He's starting 5th and has requested to go back because he's lonely. His symptoms are under control with medication and he's far ahead in academics. So we said okay. The school is doing very poorly and I have heard the kids are ruffians. I'm going to have to k...

This is really a differences in facial muscle movements. It's not so much the NTs fault if they don't know you too well. My 10 year old son often thinks his own dad is angry when it's clear to me that my husband is feeling panic, sadness, or is tired. Or sometimes even when he's thinking about an in...
