My son shows several signs of ODD, but none of Conduct Disorder. I'm not really sure I'm completely understanding what the point is...are you trying to show that ODD and Conduct Disorder are both things that can comorbate with ASD, or are you saying that only one of them does....yes, I think I'm los...

My son does Shotokan Karate and he loves it. He's 9 and is currently a yellow belt. He never took to team sports, although he did soccer for several years and enjoyed it, but it got to the point last year where it became obvious that my son just couldn't keep up with the other kids. His teammates be...

My son was 7 when he was diagnosed, and we've always been completely up front and honest with him. We had that All Cats Have Aspergers book, and it was a good place to start for him, because he was able to identify with many of the feelings in that book. Keep in mind, our son was 7 and I think even ...

I can only comment as to what has been true thus far in California - but in our case, my son has a medical diagnosis for High Functioning Autism, which has held far more water than a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome would. The reason being is that Autism is a recognized disability in the state of Cal...

I don't know about mini trampolines, but we had a real trampoline here for many years in our backyard and our son loved it. I don't believe that it's really fair to try and suppress stimming. This is how Aspies deal with the pressures of reality. That said, encouraging proper places and times for st...

hi berryblondeboys, I did read somewhere that gifted children resemble children who have asd. u should research gifted kids, maybe your son resembles that more than asd. my son has never taken an iq test but i know that he also scored very high in certain areas but was a little delayed in other are...

At first I think my husband thought I was just looking for a reason why our son was tougher to parent...but then I did some reading, shared some things I'd learned - and now my husband and I are a united front. (not that we ever weren't, but he is completely on board with it as opposed to still not ...

Hmm...your son sounds a lot like my son at 4. I knew he was hard-wired a little differently, but I couldn't ever put my finger on what was going on. I just knew he was different than my daughter, and all my friends just kept saying it was because he was a boy. I suppose that's partly true, but he al...

And I can't actually understand how anyone could stand Thomas the Tank Engine, much less become obsessed. Freaky lookin' sucker. Ha ha ha!! ! I have to admit that as an NT, I often wondered that about my son - and in no way would I ever say that I completely "get" his world. Ha...far from it!...

A lot of what she says about being married to Aspies just isn't true in all cases, and it's offensive that she'd just put all of that out there without qualifying any of it. I should know, I'm married to one of those undiagnosed aspies!

She certainly does sound bitter, that's for sure.

One other thing I might add that I've learned so far in this process - in the state of California, they do not recognize Asperger Syndrome as a disability that would require services. Autism is on the "list"...but not Asperger Syndrome per se, even though Asperger Syndrome is clearly "on the spectr...

As I said in my previous post, we are going through this IEP process right now so I do know what you're going through. It's not easy, and I have to admit that I spent a lot of time second guessing myself and the diagnosis before I ever did anything about it. That probably wasn't fair to my son, but ...

my son used to have a really hard time listening to rock music of any kind. I never really understood why until he finally explained that to him - it was just noise. (funny, I remember my dad saying that about the music I would listen to!) He preferred classical music because to his ears, it was all...

Thanks so much for the tip - I will have to look into that! My husband has done some programming in the past, but the stuff he's worked with is a little over the top for a 9 year old, and not nearly as exciting. :D I never even thought about finding him software that could do that....great idea, tha...

I have read that Melatonin is something to try with these kids, but I haven't tried it yet with my 9 year old - I would probably run it past our Pediatrician to begin with since he's taking an anti-anxiety drug to begin with and I wouldn't want to do something to mess up that delicate balance. It'd ...
