I repeat: the actual concept of 'general intelligence' of general intelligence (hence IQ) begins to break-down from around two standard deviations above average - in the top couple of percent of the population. From around and above this point, therefore, ultra-high cognitive abilities tend to be s...

I watched quite a lot of TV. When not doing that I liked reading the set of Children's encyclopaedia Britannica that my parents had bought. That started pre going to school. I didn't play with other children much, including my brother and sister. I'd say my activity level was definitely lower than av...

Not quite the same thing, but what rattles my cage is the 'since the pandemic' increase in minimum spend needed for delivery +delivery charge,re the Chinese takeaway I use .It's not a large charge but (a) it wasn't done pre pandemic (b) it's about 10 minutes walk and <5 minutes via car, I'd guess(sa...

Yet another Youtube using autistic person that I struggle very much to identify with. Without exception the failure to identify with them makes me doubt my diagnosis. They're invariably more extrovert appearing, self assured, and self confident than I am.

^ Bad memories. No 2e,gifted but disabled etc, back then. The dilemma of wanting to please my parents while being acutely aware I lacked the independent living skills, not the cognitive ability, to cope with college/university.

An interesting, but triggering thread. Things were a lot worse in the mid 1970s.

I have been described as walking like I'm drunk. Something that worsens as my anxiety increases. I was never intensely afraid of falling until I had my two falls in October 2021. Given the time it took to find out I'd actually fractured my femur, and the pain was not 'psychological', the prognosis w...

A shuffling gait can be a sign of medical conditions such as Parkinson's Disease.

But it can also be normal for some people.

I did have a half aunt who had Parkinson's. I'm not aware of anyone who had it in my direct maternal or paternal ancestors. I've always tended to shuffle my feet.

Illiteracy back then is definitely a major issue when looking into a person's ancestry. As is the style of handwriting on documents. I'm trying to work out why I have longest shared autosomal blocks of DNA as follows - matches that have ancestors with these surnames. Goatley 19 cMs > Gatley 16cMs >Ga...

Are you sure there isn't more than one "Mary Goatley"? It is surprising to me how many people with identical first and last names exist in the U.S. If you are talking about "Mary Goatley" from the 16 th century then there could be some complications due to: their bureaucracy was...

^ Thank you. I will check those sites out. An example of the problems that can occur with family trees at Ancestry. Mary Goatley = 5 different birth dates, 4 different marriage dates, 6 different spellings of her father's name, 4 different birthdates for her father, 4 different mother's name,3 diffe...

I think we all have hobbies/interests that have other people thinking WTF is he/she etc interested in that?! Genealogy has been a long running interest. At one point I was very into making tapes based on musical type/year/theme etc. Nowadays it's quizzes and tests of all kinds(playbuzz to high range...
