I do this on a regular basis. The really sad part is that I don't talk to many in RL at all (maybe 1-4 people, all close) and I can shut down a whole conversation in a chat room by analyzing something "out loud" when someone asks me what is going on, or by posting correct information about a topic w...

lol, tis true. My son is 6, and what the trainer was working with were questions like "what is your favorite type of animal?" (followed by "why do you like it?" "what other animals do you like?" "Have you ever seen one in real life?") and "what is your favorite color?" "...movie?" etc. She referred ...

I'm not sure if any of you have used topic cards or not, but my son and I were recently introduced to them in a training course of sorts for those with autism. It helps out our social skills quite a bit, seeing as neither of us really ever ask others about their interests unless it is just on a whim...

I'm not sure if any of you have any tips, as this is rather a foreign concept to me, and I'm not sure it will make a ton of sense to others. I am attending an autism parent training course, and I am the only parent who is autistic in the class, it seems. I'm having tremendous difficulty, as of cours...

I don't mind it-my hair is very thick so when it's long it becomes very heavy. My other problem is I'm always going from hot to cold-I'm NEVER comfy, which means long heavy hair makes for my hair feeling sweaty/dirty... hard to describe. But my method for getting my hair cut is going in and picking ...

Humor: My own experience with interacting with people I know for certain have AS; the conversation doesn't start, or it's completely one-sided, and it's so funny for it pans out exactly how the professionals state it would. lol, I find this humorous because I've added some people as "friends" who h...

I tell everyone... I'm one of those people who alex mentioned in one of the videos who walks up to others and says "Hi, I'm autistic." I get odd responses, but I don't really care. I guess I just like to get it out of the way early... if I do anything that seems odd to another, they know it's becaus...

I always think I'm carrying on a 2 sided conversation... until I realize the only way I can really communicate is by making everything pertain to me in one way or another... If I cannot relate to something, I cannot respond at all, and if I have no interest, I don't care to respond usually. I can sm...

It has been storming periodically over the past week, and I swear every time I go somewhere, someone always asks "is it wet out there?" or "how bad is it?" I usually figure if I walked in soaked just from going from the car to the store, it's probably pretty obvious... I assume they are making small...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: interruptions - why we hate them

I always figure others can hold on to their thoughts a lot longer than I can, so if I think of something whether it pertains or not, I MUST say it right then and there, regardless whether it leads to rambling or not. If I am interrupted, I get exceptionally frustrated... and I will interrupt others ...

lol, my son does it too. We are always mentioning volume to try to help him become a bit more aware, but it doesn't help when I'm yelling "watch your volume, I'm right next to you" without realizing it, lol. It's also kind of funny, when he does go to watch his volume, and tries to repeat something,...

I always start yelling when I'm talking about something that I'm excited about, but never realize it. It doesn't matter how many times someone tells me to calm down, I just can't keep quiet. Other times, around people I don't know, I talk so quiet they cannot hear me a lot of the time, but I don't r...

Luckily I don't really judge people by their looks. I go by personalities. I'm much the same way. One can never tell by how another looks... but then again, I can't even describe how people look, lol. If someone asks if someone else is good looking, I never know... everyone just kind of looks like ...

I thought one left this drivel behind in high school. People are judging you on how you appear every time they look at you, it's a "normal" thing to do. I don't understand it personally, but then, I'm the "abnormal" one. It's a social thing. Ya know, it's funny, I thought the same thing... but the ...
