Yes, I've seen the short film that so many still mention, and it was just one simple mistake. Have they actually made a film like it since? When was that film made again? Was it 2007, 2008? Get-over-it! All of this phoney righteous indignation may be appropriate for the pulpit, but when you indulge...

I don't like the super radical feminism that attacks women who breastfeed (saying that it teaches the child gender roles) An exaggeration surely. There can't really be people like this, can there? Yep. awkward dinner party. I'm in academia, these conversations happen all the time! some folks are ju...

Wow! I'm glad you managed to get through that day... sounds like you have learned a lot about what drains you & what it takes to restore your energy. I think I may start carrying a snack or two in my bag, since it seems to work for you! I can see temperature changes being a problem with me, exce...

Also: most folks that I know in the neurodiversity movement DO NOT think or say that we don't need help & support, that we shouldn't take medications that will help us (whether with anxiety, depression, seizures, whatever challenges you face), or that schizophrenics should go off their meds. thi...

I don't claim to speak about schizophrenia, sociopathy/psychopathy, that's outside of my scope of knowledge. I'm also not sure about what should & shouldn't be included in the neurodiversity model. but I think there is a big difference between preventing a condition (or treating it) and doctors ...

yeah, i can see where you are coming from! i struggle with a lot of the same things myself. I often tell people now that I listen much better if i am not making eye contact and if i can fidget with something in my hands, and that seems to help. when i need to function in professional or public setti...

very true! and this globalizing trend has been present for a long time in the art music world. from the turn of the 20th century on, you see the influence of music from indonesia, india, africa, china, japan.... composers start replacing exoticism with respectful borrowings and nods to other culture...

not years, but 6-8 weeks. so I can't relate to just how horrible things were for you, but I got a taste. i do think that we get more folks on our side (NTs or otherwise) if we present the facts as they stand. most folks i know will come around given the cold, hard facts. however, if the conversation...

um, pretty sure that if you consider yourself a brother of wide society, you should also consider yourself a brother to someone with downs syndrome. or are they excluded?

you don't have to be involved or agree on identity issues. just don't disparage the folks who do.

I'm only a year post-diagnosis, so I don't have nearly as much wisdom to offer as other folks here. But i think I understand some of the feelings & thoughts you are describing. I have days where I am frustrated, especially when people ask me condescendingly if I have friends, what I do all day, ...

Thanks AnonymousAnonymous! Slave, I haven't come across anything exactly as you describe. our textbooks and other resources are constantly being updated to reflect new and emerging genres. people write papers on the topic all the time, and we have whole societies for that sort of thing. One issue is...

I'm on the other side of the world :-/ What if we found a spot for him in a more homeless-friendly city's shelter? a few have been mentioned. Maybe we could pass the hat to get him a bus ticket to a better place? The area he is in is bad for the homeless and incredibly expensive (highest cost of liv...

My roommate noticed that my episodes like the ones you describe seemed to happen when th...
