I think it's a very useful dichotomy for delineating people who want to preserve or strengthen existing relations of economic and political power (right) from those who want to extend said power to more people (left).

I enjoy Wallerstein's work a lot. I tend to read a few chapters at random in one of his books, they are way too dense to take in all at once. (Or should that be I'm way too dense haha)

Left. I was in the Socialist Party (England and Wales) while I was at university reading computer science. Marxism appeals to my systems thinking and I was brought up to believe in fairness (grandfather was a Lib Dem councillor). The SP don't have a branch in Cornwall though so now I'm in the Nation...
