I wish you were the only overweight aspie, because then that would mean I wasn't! I've struggled with my weight my whole life. I was overweight as far back as I remember, like in the fourth and fifth grades (nobody really notices their weight much before that, I don't think). I weighed like 170-180 ... |

One thing that might help is to go when it is absolutely not busy at all and draw yourself a map of the food service area. Then, check to see if you can get an advance look at the menu before you go to get your food. Your university may have that online, or you may be able to talk to food services a... |

Haha... forget Barry Ronge.... How about this gem from Kirk Honeycutt from hollywoodreporter.com:
Bottom Line: A sensitive but not sentimental story about a romance involving a mentally challenged young man never makes a misstep.

I think what the person was noting is the subtle difference in the way you used the label. There's nothing wrong with autistic/autism in terms of the word being offensive. They are pointing out the difference between saying "an autistic" vs. "a person with autism." It's a trend in the disability com... |

I try, but my reflection never shows up...
Seriously, yes I do. I look at my teeth (recently had braces removed), my hair, my skin, etc. Of course, there are also times where I really should look in the mirror, and I don't. |

Unless you want your roommate to hate you, don't make a stink about guests as long as it's reasonable. You could ask that your roommate let you know when she brings guests back with her, just by knocking on your door and saying that there are people over. There are some situations where you would be... |

I run into that problem with small talk. I have trouble asking people random questions about their life. First of all, I will most likely forget whatever it is that they tell me, so I don't see why I should bother. Second, if they think that I should know what their job is or whether they are marrie... |

My doctor did warn me about melatonin. He recommended that I try it (and I've now been taking it daily for about 2 years). But he said that it is important that the bottle say either "vegetarian" or "synthetic." If the melatonin is labeled "natural," you should not take it. However, the natural pill... |

I got my dog from Midwest Assistance Dogs, but they operate locally out of Indiana. The way I found them is I went through the organizations that do the training, and e-mailed or called all of the ones within a 3-4 state area. I did this before I sent in an application (most places charge an applica... |

Your medical records can only be released with your permission. They do not get automatically released during a background check. If you need disability accommodations from your employer under ADA, then you need to request those accommodations. Otherwise, your employer has no way to know that you ar... |

My mom tells me that I made it well known that I wanted to be a boy scout rather than a girl scout, because the boy scouts got to do much cooler things than we did. Of course, I was also the girl who got the brownie uniform and said, "Well, I guess it's okay, but does it come in any other colors?" |

I wear very boring colors. I don't like bright colors at all. I have at times gone shopping with my mom, and she will persuade me to buy something, and then I take it back later because I realize that I'll never wear it just because of the color. I mostly wear browns and blacks and other muted color... |

My dog is trained in all the basic commands, but his biggest task will be to stand and stay. This will mean that he will be able to protect my personal space when I am out in public. So when I am standing in line, I can control how close I get to the person in front of me, and I can have him stand b... |

I am teaching a class this semester, which is actually going okay. It's going to be hard to stay on top of writing the lectures, but so far, so good. The worst part about it is that it's at 8:30 in the morning. Anyway, I am finally getting my service dog, which is great. I'll be getting him at the b... |

Once you've decided that you actually want to go to, say, a weekly meeting, but you only manage to get there once a month or so because it's just easier to sit in your room alone, you can find ways around the lack of motivation. -Find somebody in the group who lives near your dorm (or at least has t... |
