It really irritates me as well. Sometimes I can ignore it and sometimes not. I think the sounds bother me more than the sight because I can't just block it out. I also really hate people watching me eat, I'm always afraid I look weird because I've been teased about it in the past. My SO thinks it's ...

I do this as well as repeat the last word of what others say. When it's myself it's more often in my head. Quite often I will get kind of "stuck" on one phrase or part of a phrase in my head when I am thinking. I will repeat over and over again until I force myself to stop. An example would be "Ther...

At this point in my life (nearing 21) I can pretty much identify what is causing/will cause an overload to my system, though in the moment my mind still goes blank. I does take effort for me to stop and try and focus on what, exactly is causing this reaction. When I was a kid this was even more diff...

I can't figure it out either. I've always had a fear/difficulty with phones and conversations over them, ever since I was young and my dad made me answer at his job. It's just inexplicably stressful. I hate answering a call, I shake and stumble over the hello. Even with friends it's bad. Any convers...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How long Do your shoes last?

Depends on the shoe and thickness of the sole, but somewhere around 2-3 years. They always get worn on the balls of my feet because I walk on my toes, so I have many pairs with small holes that I can't wear in the rain :P

I have no idea if I have arthritis or not. I've had unexplained pain in my legs since I was very young (at least 4). It feels a bit like an ache in the centre of my bones and reaches from my mid calf to hip and back. It's always either in one leg or the other, never both at once (which is the weirde...

Where is the date at (fancy restaurant, etc)? That should help decide what to wear. I'd say to be safe, dress a half step less formal than you think the occasion calls for; it helps to put the other person at ease and make you seem more friendly/approachable. I would go very light on the perfume, fi...

It's really hard for me to pick favorites of anything. I used to have five favorite colours. Now I've narrowed it down to purple, green and black. Purple because it's my mom's favorite. Black because it's cool. And green, I'm not sure I've only recently started to like it. I buy a lot of green stuff...

1. As someone said before, each person is different and will be sensitive to different things. The normal things are lights, loud or erratic sounds, lots of movement in the visual field, strong or annoying smells, irratants such as smoke, perfume, etc, and physical things like being touched or havin...

The closest thing I've had to behavioral therapy is my parents yelling at me what I could and could not do throughout my childhood. That and being teased mercilessly by other kids. Enough of that builds up and you figure out what makes people tick. I used to have serious behavioral problems as a kid...

Incidentally, whilst talking about time and time zones, there is a clock at Bristol Railway station which is set deliberately 5 minutes after GMT (or BST when applicable). This is a tradition and is in homage to the fact that it was the railways, and more so Brunel's track between London and Bristo...

Gah!! I have a real problem with this. It's happened since I was young and has always been frustrating. I used to get real depressed about it, thinking no one liked me or wanted to hear what I had to say. As a result I stopped sharing my opinions as much as I wanted to and only when in the company o...

I love horror. I will watch any horror movie no matter what the type, even if people say it's bad. My favorite would have to be psychological horror stuff. I've only recently gotten into it so I haven't seen very many, and I'm terribly lazy/poor so I don't watch them often. I'm not a movie person in...
