I'm in the same boat here. I am researching how to apply for disability concerning my severe GAD, but getting an ASD diagnosis has been on my mind as well. The problem is every research center and hospital that offers diagnoses have rejected or ignored me based on my age. (They only see minors.) So ...

I think it's important that you talk to your spouse so that she understands about ASD/stimming etc. If you cannot replace your stims with other satisfying stims, it will be hard to prevent head-banging. I think that hand-flapping would be a good stim for you to redirect to as it is quite physical a...

The ultimate calming techniques are Mental rather than Physical. Try making use of The Star Prayer at least thrice daily in the knowledge that it is designed to help you to not cause harm to anything or anyone whether to others or your environment. This does not need to be done aloud, just with a d...

Have you tried using a stress ball in your hand or maybe hugging a stuffed animal or a pillow? I do the same things as you a lot and I find that squeezing things helps me. I always carry a stuffed kitty with me wherever I go and I have a stress ball my mom got me that I use a lot too. I actually ow...

Probably been asked on here before, but I thought I'd ask for my own sake... So hello again! I'm Lu. I joined a few months ago but dropped off here for a while to kind of find myself. Anyway, I'm back, and I'm looking for some helpful advice. Like many others, I self-harm. Not severely, but it's pre...

According to a speech therapist back in middle school, I had, and still have, a speech impediment. I was a talker when I was younger, always boasting out things really loudly that may or may not have gotten a few odd looks. But one year my father said I was talking weird, so he had me sent to a spee...

I have this problem when my anxiety is out of control. If I'm feeling overly stressed out, tired, or overstimulated, I get to the point where I can't remember daily activities and end up forgetting majorly important details. I'll start heading to work without shoes, or I'll promise a customer an ite...

I am synesthetic, but I can invalidate the left-handedness. I'm mostly right-handed and have severely strong grapheme->color synesthesia. I can draw quite beautifully with my left hand, though. So I'm not sure if that means I'm ambidextrous or just an oddball. I can also see sounds exactly as you de...

For what it's worth, Hailey is actually a pretty gender-neutral sort of name. I'm wondering if it, through "evolution," somehow acquired a "feminine reputation," like "Ashley" did. Ashley was meant to be gender-neutral, too. All it means is something like a "clear...

This is why I go by Lu. XD My birth name is Hailey, but it stresses me out when I hear it, mostly for gender-related reasons. I feel androgynous, and Hailey is a cute, feminine name. I don't mind cute, but it has a lot of previous attachment to it that I feel uncomfortable with, namely because it's ...

Gotcha. Glad you two are going separate ways though. It took me a long time to realize that most bullies are simply bullies because they like whoever they're bullying. I wish him luck in getting his psych checked and feeling more comfortable with his sexuality. XD And I feel ya. Being gay is very h...

Forgive my forwardness, but he sounds gay. I'll just say it. I've seen this SOOOO many times and most of the time, the bully is actually quite gay. (I feel like I can say that because I have an excellent gaydar for being gay myself. XD) If that's the case, there's a couple options. Report him anywa...

Is it really common/acceptable in the States to approach a complete stranger and comment on their clothing? 8O Yes in fact. This is extremely common. I'm complimented all the time on what I'm wearing. :O I would recommend finding something that both can relate to with the woman that the man is appr...

Yes, this happens to me frequently during meltdowns. I often get the uncontrollable urge to hit myself repeatedly in the head. I didn't see it much of a problem until my last meltdown just about a week ago, where I actually injured my head, thumbs, and wrists by hitting myself so hard during a fit....
