I don't kill spiders, and am upset when other people kill spiders, but I do understand why people would risk their life for a pet and also kill spiders. People form emotional attachments to their pets, but they probably feel no attachment to a random spider which appears in their house. Furthermore,...

It really depends on how much difficulty you have distinguishing between reality and fiction. If you start believing that the fictional characters are real and exist in this world the same way you and I exist, then that would be a delusion, as it is not true. However, having a sense that the charact...

Yes, definitely. If it is someone I know well enough, the don't-know-what-to-say silence can be fine, but with other people it's downright awkward. As much as I want to stop the awkward silence, I worry that whatever I'm thinking of saying might be wrong.

If you don't mind my asking, what does it feel like for you when you have a meltdown? I don't know if I've ever had one; I tend to have shutdowns instead.

Congratulations!
The biggest thing to remember (in my opinion) is that this doesn't change anything about you as a person. You always had ASD; it just wasn't officially recognised. You are just a more enlightened version of the person who went into the assessment.

Good luck for the future! :D

It has happened to me, but only for a few minutes at a time. The few times it happened have all been caused by either shock/physical pain (more the shock of having hurt myself than the actual pain, I think) or strong emotions. Each time, people have forced me to talk as soon as I could (wanting to k...

When I go places, it is always with a purpose. If I need to go somewhere, I will manage. I do not have anyone to take me places or help me (all family are in a different city), so I just walk and bus alone. This makes me slightly nervous (especially since I am new in this city, and don't know my way...

I was about to click "about the same" ... but because my shoulder has been dislocated since last weekend and I haven't seen anyone about it yet... I thought the more honest answer was "neglect your health to some extent" :p How have you not done anything about that? From what I'...

It's even possible that, if you were NT, your goals and priorities would be totally different to what they are now.

It's hard to say whether your avoidance of medical attention was related to your ASD - some NTs also don't go to the doctor, even if they need to.

As for looking after my health, I try my best. However, I sometimes forget to drink, which is not good.

I would be interested to be NT for a day, mainly to know what I'd be like if I were NT. How much of my character/personality is part of/resulting from my ASD? That would be interesting to see.

I guess I would also like to see how different my experience (as someone with ASD) is to that of a NT...

I also like velvet - the way it feels when you rub it back and forth under your thumb is very enjoyable.

Conversely, one texture I absolutely hate is smooth-ish surfaces with grainy dust - like a blackboard or an old car that isn't smoothly finished. Just thinking about it makes me shiver. :pale:

I live with my parents, don’t work, can’t go anywhere alone, can’t even handle my SSI checks, I don’t have a boyfriend, I can’t drive, I need help with some activities of daily living. Yet you have youtube videos up. That may not be so special, but it's not like I can do it. The best advice I ever ...

I'm also quiet and don't bond well with co-workers, I like my own space. I don't mind talking to likable people but I prefer being on my own at breaks and things like that. If you try to talk to people on your breaks, it's possible that you might make some friends. Making friends does involve some ...

Very introverted. Not sure if this is just how I am, or because I am scared that if I interact with people I will do something wrong and they will hate me. Unfortunately, the more I like someone, the more this scares me.
