It depends on how broad or narrow your definition of neurotypical is. I'm autistic, but the reason why I don't date and never did isn't autism but growing up with another psychological condition. If I wasn't autistic but had still grown up with the other condition things would probably be pretty muc... |

Old thread and I didn't read through all of it, but... 1. Where do you think the rumor that Aspies hate reading stems from: difficulties tolerating as much socialization as NTs, are Aspies simply incapable of understanding fiction books because of a lack of empathy, or is this rumor simply the end r... |

People on here don't seem to agree which psychological conditions if any NT includes or doesn't include. However, in some cases when people use it to mean non-autistic they may be aware that that's not exactly what NT means and might be using it for simplicity or because it's the more well known te... |

Downs Syndrome is Trisomy 21, which means people with Downs Syndrome have three copies of chromosome 21 instead of 2. It can vary a bit. Sometimes the third copy is just a normal chromosome, sometimes it's attached to another chromosome or maybe it could be missing a piece. But either way it's a big... |

Yes, that people with ASD don't lie or don't abuse people is simply a myth with little basis in reality. Some people with severe autism might not understand how to lie and might not have good enough social understanding to intentionally abuse others. But people with level 1 autism generally can and ... |

All children are born without language, without theory of mind, without emotional control and some other traits that can to varying extent be observed in some autistic people. A newborn wouldn't function well as an adult, but they also are not expected to. Just because something is normal at some de... |

Just because science doesn't have the tools to measure, or even discover, the mechanism behind something doesn't actually mean it doesn't exist. If a person in 1600 had a chunk of Uranium in their pocket every day, they would have no idea why they developed cancer. They wouldn't even know what the ... |

If you don't think you have autism and you do well in life, why are you even being assessed for autism? A diagnosis without ever talking to the diagnostician face to face seems rather odd. There are so many things the diagnostician should assess that they can't possibly judge without talking to you ... |

I am diagnosed with autism and do not have much difficulty reading body language, facial expression or tone of voice (as far as I can tell). I also don't struggle with metaphors. You need to have some difficulties in social communication to be diagnosed with autism, but which exact difficulties can ... |

'Masiking' feels like a more accurate description of what I do than 'mimicry'. For me the more important part of masking is hiding aspects of my true self, not pretending a false self. 'Mimicry' might be accurate for people who imitate specific people or characters, but I don't really do that. Calli... |

Hearing about how “female autism” is supposed to be so different and easy to miss/misdiagnose just makes me feel even more isolated because I can’t relate to it at all. But then again, I’m usually the exception that supposedly proves the rule. Same here. I'm classic to the common descriptors, which... |

I don't use depressed except in the context of actually having depression. I've seen people use it referring to a fleeting feeling or sadness but I've also seen plenty of people complain about the word being overused. I can't say the same for anxiety. People might overuse the word 'anxiety' by exagg... |
