Less flippantly, though, I have the feeling that they may wish to split autism up into those most severely affected and others (HFA, aspies, etc.) who may be labelled as fakers or something like that, to bring down numbers and deny supports. Maybe they will play around with the diagnostic criteria t...

If they are insisting on finding one unique cause of autism, it will end up being "a biological impact affecting neurological development".

There, found it. Why wait until September?

Yeah, I am wondering too. Could be a sensory issue or executive dysfunction or depression / mental health issue, I guess? Or a housing issue, like shared or dirty showers or lack of hot water? I feel like whatever it is, you should be getting some support, SFBUMan. Daily living assistance or somethi...

I was going to say the same. Didn't you study engineering or something like that?
I think you have suffered a lot of misfortune in life, which was likely due to factors outside your control and not much related to physical capabilities.

The point I was making is that it is not illegal, since job classification can be changed against the employee's wishes in a number of circumstances.

In the Australian public service, an employee can be involuntarily demoted to a lower classification, under certain circumstances: From the Australian Public Services Act 1999: An Agency Head may reduce the classification of an APS employee, without the employee’s consent, only in the following circ...

1. Slash the government quotas of job applications required to be sent by the unemployed to maintain their benefits, so that employers have more confidence that applicants genuinely want the job. 2. Make it illegal to screen applications using software or AI. 3. Provide options such as in-person or ...

I think it is true that the world does not change for autistic people, so we have to learn ways to change ourselves, not in the sense of becoming less autistic, but in finding ways to work around our difficulties. I think if a parent helps with that in a loving and supportive way, that can be a good...

I watched the whole series, it was addictive, needing to know how everythign worked out. It is quite upbeat overall. Connor ends up being totally smitten by a second girl, who seems very nice, I hope that works out for them both. I think the producers did really well in this series in finding possib...

it seems to be used more for kids in an educational context. so I had never considered applying that term to myself. Like others here, I do consider my autism to be a disability in the sense of it preventing me from doing many things I would like to do, or even need to do. But since there is very li...

I'm not sure if people here are aware, but the level of support needs is supposed to apply separately to the two diagnostic domains of "social communication" and "repetitive, restricted behaviours and interests". So someone might be, for example, Level 1 in the first and Level 2 ...

I know what you mean, although I probably wouldn't have termed it as ego. It seems to me more like a self-confidence within NTs as opposed to the low or fluctuating self-esteem that often plagues us autistics. This enables NTs to stand up for themselves and advocate to get what they want, which ofte...

A stat like this is senseless BECAUSE: 1. Many HFA/AS, etc... autistics will certainly be employed 2. Some Classicals won't because they are affected too much. 3. SOME will not REALLY be ASD! This will drive the REAL statistics DOWN! 4. Others that are ASD won't be in the statistics. This will driv...
