It's epigenetics. There are a lot of people with polygenic risk for autism but they don't have it because they (or their preceding sperm / ovum) were not exposed to the stress / inflammation / drugs / pollutants which "turn on" the relevant genes during brain development. Much of the huge ...

There are as many different types of autism as there are autistic people. But as this is a bit too complex for people to grasp, and for the purposes of 'treatment', there's a tendency to divide us into groups. This used to be diagnoses like classic autism (which would likely cover those with movemen...

We're having a lot of youth crime around here, and it makes me think maybe getting everyone to do a year of national service after school might be a good thing. Not just the unemployed but everybody. And not just for defence but for building projects, disaster relief work etc. Seems like a win-win f...

Autism is a developmental disorder, meaning the brain / nervous system has not developed in the usual way. This could be hereditary or it could be caused by a gene mutation. Sodium valproate is a known teratogen - that is, it can affect embryo development. So it is not surprising that some cases of ...

I meet up with some ladies from a writers' group, so when I run out of conversation I just ask them what they're writing or tell them about mine. And failing that we can talk about books, movies etc. And our kids. But yes, I know exactly what you mean, it can be hard to relate to other women. Even w...

Probably just menopause hormones, I guess. Or the body runs out of ova... but wait... found another one :D

I've been waiting a couple of years for my periods to stop but they just kept coming. But now I've missed two months and getting hot flashes so it's finally happening.

I'm sorry I don't have experience with this issue so this may be wrong, it is just my thought.
It sounds like Koe's emotional responses are easily triggered.
If this is similar to an anxiety disorder in adults, we would practice breathing techniques which can help calm the nervous system.

I don't really have a problem with chores. I am paralyzed by more challenging things, like having to sort out a mistake on my property taxes, which I have been putting off for two years. I truly have no idea how to handle that and it is hanging over me like a dread. Or more generally by things that...

Generally I think it should be OK to go back on them, but check with your doctor. Because you were on antidepressants for so long (nearly 10 years), your brain will have downregulated it's natural serotonin production, and it may not have fully adjusted back. So you might actually need to return a b...

If you are asking whether you have autism/Aspergers, there is nothing to indicate so.
Your experiences sound more like ASPD.

But I wish you the best in your further studies and in life.

You're probably not getting many replies because your post was quite long to read through, and it wasn't clear what kind of responses you were looking for. You could break it down - ask more specific job questions in this subforum, and for emotional support post in the Haven subforum.

It's described as being made up of working memory, cognitive flexibility, and impulse control, but those strike strike me as three very different things. Cognitive flexibility and impulse control are both looked after by the executive, who is located in the white matter of the frontal or prefrontal...

To understand the term "executive function", imagine there's a little guy (the executive) sitting in your head. When he's asleep, we just follow our instincts - we eat and sleep etc as we like. When he's awake, he reminds us of other things we need to be doing like washing the dishes strai...

When I'm feeling overwhelmed it is often because I have this feeling that there are so many things I need to do and I don't know where to start and it just feels like this huge pressure on me. Personally I find it really useful to make a list. But I have to go through and work out priorities, as in ...
