Hi Father!
Welcome (back) to WP.
I was a newly diagnosed seminarian when you went public with your diagnosis, and it was very helpful to see.

Replacement string for the violin (trying to teach myself, had a year of lessons ~22 years ago), a book (a real, hardcover book!), stuff for the cheap inflatable kayak I'm trying out to get into shape. |

I can prove my claims very easily if you allow me. When I prove to you everything documented, what then? You might of started there, instead of asking for resources -- By all means, good doctor, prove away! To start with, what is this formula? What about it is so rare? What is the mechanism of ASD ... |

Don't volunteer your age, but don't deliberately conceal it either. Bringing it up could be seen as pride, or even as trying to prove something.
There will be, as always, people who are happy for your success and people threatened by it. |

I have not noticed any decline in the usage of “Asperger” and “aspie” here since the latest findings came out. For my own sake, it is the lack of any other descriptor that is as accurate. Jumping onboard with a proposed change in terminology would (to your point regarding change), be premature unti... |

Yes, by superiors. And it was just as quickly dismissed by more direct supervisors, so  not my problem? I mean, I know that there are things that I have learned to get my way, when necessary, but usually it is just a matter of picking battles and knowing when to push back and when to give way... |

Has anybody tried to explain your shrink you are autistic and the specific difficulties you have making any friend? I am reluctant to tell her all... |

I would vote for some widely known fictional character, who had its characteristical symptoms. Maybe Captain Nemo' Syndrome? He was a social outcast interested mainly in science, had strange eating habits, he sometimes got angry, etc (Verne probably used his own characteristical traits, I wouldn't ... |

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the common belief that people on the Autistic spectrum are deficient in TOM is incorrect. At least, we're no more lacking in that ability than NTs are. I assume that everyone starts off in life, believing by default, that other people are basically similar t... |

There is a flaw to trying to figure a common pattern, in that we know that there are multiple 'paths' to autism: inherited or de novo mutations. More severe forms of autism arise more frequently from de novo mutations, which again correspond to older parental age. But in the cases where there is a l... |
