I am 39 now and this is something that still bothers me to this day. This was after Columbine, and they sent a teacher who used to teach at my middle school because they thought she knew me better. She asked me if I ever thought about doing violence or hurting anyone at school. I was a weird kid - ...

Dependence is when you require a chemical to function. Antidepressants don't create an urge to keep taking them. They can lead to dependence, but not necessarily addiction. Addiction is the positive need to keep taking something, whereas dependence is the negative need to not stop taking it - at le...

All of those symptoms are also to be expected when Starting paxil as well, with the exception of "flu-like symptoms" which of not cased by a cold or flu are psychosomatic, so no it doesn't really sound more that psychological. Starting and stopping any anti-depressant will cause side-effe...

When i came of paxil i had a white face, and i was told i looked ill. If drug is used to cure a chemical imbalance, wouldnt it be logical to have a chemical dependancy? Mayo clinic talks about "withdrawal like symptoms" which sounds like weasel words. These include: General feeling of unea...

My GP also disagreed when I said Paxil causes me to become angry. She said anger is a separate issue. I was quietly sceptical. There must be at least some overlap.

I also have a lot of repressed anger so when meds have put me off kilter, my mental armour is then compromised and emotions affect me more

All 3 of those for sure. But I honestly feel like it's a chemical withdrawal as medication time approaches. It's like a barren and harsh feeling in my head. (perhaps my dose is too low, but I'm aware that if I go higher, it becomes more difficult to come off)

Bit of a catch 22 with the ADHD meds and bp meds for you!

The GP said that while Paxil is effective, it is very hard to come off. I even found that I was getting ready to snap by the time of my daily dose.. just quite volatile In mood, especially if I was a couple hours late!

Never tried ADHD meds.

Im sorry to hear that Isabella, that is rough!

I know that they help some people, they helped me through a horrendous period of my life.

I'd like to focus on the debate of whether it is or isn't addiction.

I just can't quit them and I've quit everything else in my life.

Those don't have the psychological and chemical elements of dependency though

Doctors can also mistreat someone.

I wouldnt call a diabetic on insulin an addict, no. My own opinion on anti depressants is they are addictive, even if I know the accepted wisdom is different. I wasnt functional when I have tried to come off, I had to go to hospital for my own safety one time because I hurt myself and the other time...
