If the service dog is a genuine need it can go to school with you. That would kind of be the point. The school is not allowed to say no.

Agreed. In at least one of Nathan Selove's YouTube videos you can see this exact thing playing out. He's up front, and so is his service dog. e.g. Here

I used to be naive, but this is a real and serious issue. Other PDs like borderline personality disorder also. I got a crash course recently :( Thank you for talking about this, OP. Everyone else, it's in your interest to pay attention. Anecdotally, I believe narcissists have a high affinity for tar...

I'd bet good money the circumstances are a fit for narcissism in the mother, traits or clinical. It's not our business to diagnose, of course. You should, however, educate yourself a bit, protecting your prerogatives requires nothing less. Narcissism is quite prevalent and EXTREMELY damaging, with a...

Yes, libertarianism did and does appeal to me. As autistics we constitute a serial collective - it's easy enough, and reasonable, to predict the experience of many of our compatriots - we find ourselves unreasonably subjected to invalid judgements and unreasonable limits imposed by others, and we wi...

Although I don't know your mom, and don't have a good answer about how to convince her, I sure do hope you do manage to do so. Would you agree she does have your best interests at heart, that is, we're not addressing a narcissist parent kind of situation in this case? Have you gotten across the serv...

In grade two I distinguished myself from my classmates, in the eyes of my teacher, by displaying mixed handedness. The best words to describe the cutting and handwriting styles I displayed are: Laborious Intentional Precise Slow The way I understand this now is that my neurodiversity led me process ...

When I was 30 I was much closer to teenage-self than my current 42 year old self. Lots of years insulated, gaming, doing what works for me. I've grown much more in the past several years, raising kids, dealing with having a wife showing signs of a personality disorder, working and burning out. I don...

Yes, by engaging with the stories of both groups on Reddit, it's become clear to me autistics are dramatically ove-represented among those who suffer at the hands of people with cluster B disorders. That book really is armor against it, if applied well. Her book about raising kids who face exposure ...

The gold standard for this area, I think, is Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist by Margalis Fjelstad.

She uses decades of expertise to predict and explain. She recommends practical ways to turn things around.

I sometimes talk to my school psychologist and psychiatrist. Hm yep, probably not enough. Psychiatry is really just a different profession, and the school psychologist, guessing they don't have the extra distinction of clinical psychologist, or enough specialization. There's a process you could run...

I didn't know jack about BPD until I noticed the match for my wife's behaviors, after 9 years married. Now I've had a crash course. I can't remain in the relationship and stay healthy. My kids need at least one parent who reliably provides consistency, safety, and unconditional love, and my ability ...

It's a travesty that kids can't get diagnosed with BPD until they're 18 (or sometimes even 21). If the psychs understood the amount of time one spends in complete anxiety that ones offspring is going to go and kill herself... Are they not aware of (a) the suicide rate amongst BPD sufferers, and (b)...

I'm 4 years in on my journey of mature autism reflection, but I've also had a crash course in Personality Disorders, courtesy of my wife's behaviors. So, I write this reply with a full grasp of the import of what you are saying. My main reaction is, let's expect you are right and you don't have aspd...

Too often I have related things to worry about.

+1 for occupational therapist. You'll find a lot of gems about this in the book Divergent Mind but Jenara Nerenberg, do please check it out. I'll just add - sensory sensitivity and emotion are often linked, and can feed back into each other. Anti-anxiety measures and accommodations may help. Relief ...

Scrump, it would of course be irresponsible of some folks on the internet to diagnose you, so of course we say you should see a clinician. I can guess you are thinking this is impractical advice for a 14 year old who isn't sure how to deal with his parents about this. Across the many MANY stories pe...
