I joined this site in 2013 and this is by far the darkest time for the American Autistic community since I have been here. Even before the rise of Kennedy at least in part because of the stigmas and they way we were treated the mental illness rates amoung us was an abomination. Kennedy being grante... |

It just seems like something a company can do to look more welcoming without doing practically anything at all. Yes, I suspect it's an example of what's called performative activism - companies paying lip service to politically-correct ideas without doing any real legwork to change anything, becaus... |

One of the most interesting thing these days is the use of creative language. You can make almost anything be anything with the right semantic words. If you read this article it has a very different tone on the same subject, read one after the other and you`ll see what i mean:- https://www.hhs.gov/... |

Less flippantly, though, I have the feeling that they may wish to split autism up into those most severely affected and others (HFA, aspies, etc.) who may be labelled as fakers or something like that, to bring down numbers and deny supports. Maybe they will play around with the diagnostic criteria ... |

My guess is they are betting the farm on the testimony of so called whistleblower William Thompson that the cdc covered up evidence of a link. So from their point of view they believe if they test whatever he says was covered up it will bring a positive result. Which would explain the narrow time ex... |

Autism acceptance is classic Orwellian Doublespeak. It’s problematic behaviours that get autistic people into trouble, not the autism label itself. Nobody cares what something is called people are only bothered about how it may impact them. For example schizophrenia has a stigma of fear around unpro... |

The whole diagnostic manual needs to be torn up its outdated and not fit for purpose These so called psychologist's don't seem to have a clue. I suspect its because psychology which is what the DSM is based upon is completely divorced from the science of what autism is, which in most cases is a whol... |

In reply to the rhetorical question by the author, its always easier to deal with easy things like puzzle logos and criticise autism speaks for an ad they put out 15 years ago than deal with the big problems https://theautismcafe.com/world-autism-month-puzzle-piece-awareness-profound-autism/ Brace y... |

It’s unclear what is meant by acceptance How can you not accept something that is present in reality ie I accept the sky is not green I accept I was diagnosed with ASD, I’m not frantically looking to challenge that, is anyone? That autism is not a disorder? They cannot do this because it is a disor... |

Accept autistic people of course, but also accept autism is a disorder for most too, as the name suggests and different autistic people have varying opinions on their autism
That's the meaning of acceptance |
