I think he holds the overall theory that yes, autism does have a genetic component that can be passed down through the generations. | I would welcome research on environmental factors. But that is not what is promised. If a reasonable approach were adopted, by the September deadline they could have undertaken a review of existing research, picked up some environmental factors deserving further attention, such as pesticides, PCBs,... |

| Less flippantly, though, I have the feeling that they may wish to split autism up into those most severely affected and others (HFA, aspies, etc.) who may be labelled as fakers or something like that, to bring down numbers and deny supports.
