I had to google commiserate. New word for me, and you definitely deserve to have some. I love reading other parents description of the ASD situation because I find it hard to put my finger on all these issues. I probably adapt to situations people shouldn't need to, and only when somebody else point... |

The discussion on her not being autistic is unnecessary. She's 100% autistic in every way possible. Her parents already have enough fame and would probably do whatever it takes to keep her out of the spotlights. I think she's the kind of aspie that divides espies. My father, who is just as obsessed ... |

I thank you all for I have learn a lot in this thread about speech delays and how it can be daunting for parents to endure worrying about when a child will speak, for so long, and only finding out about his/her ASD diagnosis later in childhood. Thanks, I've been hoping another parent can take over ... |

I believe we haven't even defined yet what the underlying causes of autism is or what area we should be exploring. Psychology is not just the answer here. The word Behavior therapy leaves a stinking and sour smell in my mouth. What if we are only treating the symptoms. Putting gloves on a child who'... |

Keep us posted about the stem cell treatment. Sweden may be more advanced with this type of treatment. Sweden is not doing any kind of research on autism and stem cell therapy combined. They don't want to advance in any area other than being completely dull. Swedens take on autism can be described ... |

I wanted to add a bit more info on his progress. We had a meeting pretty soon after the treatment with our special ed. We were looking at a couple of ABA exercises for our son. A follow up meeting took place about a month after and one of them commented that they couldn't believe the rapid change. A... |

Not a cure but the kids improve dramatically. Our son all of a sudden speeded up his learning and also improved his comprehensive language. We also met other parents there who were in for a second round. All very pleased with the outcome. I think Mona Pereth (on a another thread) made the point tha... |

Cyberdad, I'm starting to see what you meant by ABA only being helpful for skills. I'm not sure we'll ever get to the point where social interaction is going to be taught though. We're still trying to catch up with some of the basic living skills. We've done stem cell treatment (second round a week ... |

I forgot to mention we've also had to deal with the police. My wife said I actually should be getting a medal after each day, and instead I get a call from the police. I had restrained my youngest son while putting on his seat belt. Before that I was trying to calm him with hugs, pictures, calm talk... |

Hello stratozyk, you are not alone out there - even though we're not that many. I have 3 kids now. 6M  4M  1month old girl   All non-verbal. Oldest one was potty trained several months before NT kids. He was also very early with pointing out stuff in books and stuff like th... |

I actually met with one who just recently got ASD and OSD to her repertoire in addition to her ADHD. She said social skills were not hard for her. Changes and repetitive behavior were the tricky things. So yes, there's probably a subgroup of social adept ASD people out there and maybe the diagnosis ... |

I think AD(H)D was a very popular diagnosis back in the 90s in the US--ritalin made a big splash, followed by adderall. I remember people being concerned back then that maybe ADD was being "overdiagnosed" or "overmedicated". It was kind of a low-class thing at first, due to whic... |

Congratulations. I was diagnosed with ADD back when I was a kid. There's definitely a lit of overlap. I'm glad you found the answers you were seeking. Thank you :D Yes, it actually feels good to know I wasn't just imagining all these things. I surely could have used some help in my mid teens. Inste... |

I now have my diagnosis. The last few months it has become quite obvious. It was the family responsibility that finally revealed my condition. I asked if they were sure about it and got the reply both of them thought there was no doubt, whatsoever. I also scored extremely high on the intelligence te... |

It is never too late to get insights into why we are as we are. Remember why you started the process. No regrets. Whatever you learn will be useful to you. I've been sorely tempted to look into an assessment for myself lately. Some recent ADHD articles have struck really close to home for me (to my... |
