I actually met with one who just recently got ASD and OSD to her repertoire in addition to her ADHD. She said social skills were not hard for her. Changes and repetitive behavior were the tricky things. So yes, there's probably a subgroup of social adept ASD people out there and maybe the diagnosis ...

I think AD(H)D was a very popular diagnosis back in the 90s in the US--ritalin made a big splash, followed by adderall. I remember people being concerned back then that maybe ADD was being "overdiagnosed" or "overmedicated". It was kind of a low-class thing at first, due to whic...

Congratulations. I was diagnosed with ADD back when I was a kid. There's definitely a lit of overlap. I'm glad you found the answers you were seeking. Thank you :D Yes, it actually feels good to know I wasn't just imagining all these things. I surely could have used some help in my mid teens. Inste...

I now have my diagnosis. The last few months it has become quite obvious. It was the family responsibility that finally revealed my condition. I asked if they were sure about it and got the reply both of them thought there was no doubt, whatsoever. I also scored extremely high on the intelligence te...

It is never too late to get insights into why we are as we are. Remember why you started the process. No regrets. Whatever you learn will be useful to you. I've been sorely tempted to look into an assessment for myself lately. Some recent ADHD articles have struck really close to home for me (to my...

So now I've had a third party done the interviews and tests. Only missing the medical + parents interview and then I get back my results on the 21st of april. I was waiting to be scheduled for examination a year ago and they didn't have the resources to deal with it so I got a private agent to fix i...

Not really sure what the question was. All I can say is that NT kids come across as far more autistic than my own kids when we're out "socializing". For example; if my oldest son wants to initiate jumping together on a bouncy castle the NT will react to this totally normal approach like he...

As one who always wonder about this I'd really like to know what the alternative diagnosis were. The amount of kids on the spectrum today must be more than they used to be. I'm not talking about aspergers, I'm talking about Kanners kind of autism. To miss these kind of behaviors or lack of communica...

I still don't know what attention to details actually means. Anyone can notice details. Some NTs who are talented in art or even cooking spend a lot of time working on the details. And movies and cartoons have so many little details put in that even I couldn't think up. And some NTs even notice tin...

I'm thinking virtual intelligence must be able to help autistic people quite a bit in the future. I'm thinking googles that can interpret facial expressions, help navigate. Or auto payment for bills, help you keep track of time. I mean help for whatever kind of weakness need to be adressed.

It's not a stereotype at all. My kids notice the smallest things. Especially food. You can also see it when you mix up 200 different toys and they will just look at the pile and pick up a tiny piece of something they need. They single out just about anything they are interested in. But they don't se...

I don't see how they even know what kind of effort is being made by the person tested. I know what my sons are able to do (and they are probably able to do more). I also know they can ignore a task, regardless of what you, me or anyone else thinks about that. How do you go on testing under those cir...

INFP, according to the test at least. I have such a hard time answering questions like that. Way to often I just pick the middle answer, which I think is pointless. And many times I don't really know the answer. Bogus test. A bit surprised I ended up with the 3rd most common type for users here on WP.

Anyone else had their DNA tested? You gave a couple of good reasons why NOT to have your DNA tested. A few more: Medical insurers using this info to deny/increase cost of health insurance, potential employers using this info to discriminate in hiring, landlords refusing to rent to health risks, and...

My wife is still insisting on having it done the other way as she's a highly sensitive person and says she has to know what it's like to have a "normal" family as well. I know that sounds really insensitive (I am the first one to acknowledge that) but I believe there's just no way of maki...
