There is a lot of universe out there, but I remind myself that this is where the chocolate sundae ice cream is. |

I have resorted to putting some easels in my largest room (which is not large) and I invite people in to draw still life or draw each other drawing. Every so often my little house has someone in it for a couple of hours a month. Putting up easels is good but they have to be safe, and so I have found... |

I have a picture memory and this helps me with visual art. I too was put in a special group for Maths at school. I cannot make numbers fall into line in my mind and they are replaced with other numbers without my noticing. This led to years of comparing myself to other people according to our differ... |

I would say that if someone needs to escape from a situation where their needs are ignored then I would say health benefits along with a sound diagnosis are vital. If someone's needs are already understood then they have a choice about health benefits and I would say go with what brings you that sel... |

I tend to make lists now and then. When I make lists I try to add some really hard or boring things on it. Then the items that should be done do get done, because they are now the easiest ones At other times a kind of 'mental swamp' happens and a list does not work. On those days I do a bit of anyth... |

With Asperger's Syndrome I often feel that people in everyday situations are expecting responses that I cannot give them. The more they react to my non-response then the less comfortable I feel and the more alienated I feel. I would say there is a general withdrawal at play in both conditions. Someo... |

I agree with BeaArthur and suggest that you should try local hobby/interest groups. A writing group gave me the means to escape from isolation many years ago now. I am slipping back into isolation again and so I have lined up a new writing group that will start in September. Any interest group has a... |

Hi Firemonkey. I might be one of the world’s worst photographers, though I have learned that any photograph should have one good shadow in it. Also, given the starring role of shadows, it does not matter so much what level of camera you have. I think Computer Exchange sell used hand-sized cameras fo... |

I know how you feel. I take a camera to formal family gatherings but explain that I will have a theme for the day, which might be old doors, windows, paths, gates etc. My family are reasonably understanding and oftentimes they appreciate that I am recording the setting rather than the people. I do w... |

You will find that Citizen's Advice, or The Law Centre (Citizen's Advice renamed), will help you to prepare for a tribunal rather than opting to face the court entirely on your own. You may already be using C.Adv or The Law Centre. Their legal advocates can represent you in court and can focus on th... |

At around the age of 22 I studied an introductory course in Sociology, the study of societies. It was long before I was dxd and I think I saw it as the way to learn how to function better (since I could not keep jobs or talk to people). Sociology is a very worthy subject but I think I took it too li... |

I would say: Try to relax with things that make no sense. It is what we do not perceive well that is at the heart of the problem. This is not to say that people without autism have a better view, they in turn cannot entirely acquire the perspective that autism offers. There is a gap, but either pret... |

I'm not disappointed as such but I spent years wishing I could have lived up to others' expectations, which caused me great disappointment and which was in the end the very thing that was holding me back. I wanted to go back in time to when I was confused at school and become un-confused. What I dis... |

I have moments when my voice gets louder when I am getting nearer to the main point that I am wanting to say. It doesn't happen as much as it used to. If I spoke loudly all of the time I would consider singing or perhaps amateur theatre. I found it interesting how many many people with A.S. can feel... |
