I was diagnosed last year at age 58. I had established regular weekly therapy sessions with a clinical social worker who is herself autistic. She eventually referred me to the one psychologist in our area who specializes in autism. He’s actually semi-retired, only seeing some long standing patients ...

I occasionally experience tinnitus, more in recent years than in the past. My hearing is still very sensitive, though my ability to hear some frequencies has declined with age. Still, none of my hearing is below the normal range, according to the audiologists.

I hate heat + humidity. I can hardly function when it’s like that.

I can somewhat tolerate the dry Summer heat here in New Mexico.

I despise feeling hot & sweaty/sticky.

Few if any details have been provided to employees, but apparently our department is planning to use a hybrid model because hiring during the pandemic has resulted in needing to fit 180 employees into space for only 100. One thing they’ve said repeatedly is that only people working in the office fiv...

I’m very out. When I grew up in the 60s/70s, there was little to no info available about transgender people. When puberty hit I learned I was almost exclusively attracted to men, and thus concluded that I was a gay man. Started coming out as gay at 17 and basically blew the doors off my closet by th...

First off, congratulations on feeling surety regarding your sexuality after a long struggle! Overcoming shame, navigating the expectations of others and the expectations we self-impose, etc., it’s amazing to make it through all that. Good on you! There’s no way to control how others perceive us, or ...

Diagnosed this past Thursday with ASD, Level 1 (i.e. Aspergers), requiring support. The 5 hour assessment itself went well, though I did have a minor meltdown during the process. It left me with a two day headache, too. On the first morning after getting the preliminary written diagnosis I felt...ca...

Getting to that particular American Dream demands clear hindsight, honest discourse, and most of all, acknowledging the reality of what BIPOC & AAPI Americans have been telling White Americans for many, many years. If you look at past history there often has to be violent conflict before the Am...

In my work I come into contact with a great deal of data on healthcare disparities and they make it painfully clear that systemic racism pervades the USA, both historically and currently. If I doubted that, all I would have to do is listen to my BIPOC and AAPI friends and family, and believe what th...

As out as possible. I’m trans, didn’t understand that until I was 53, and then chose to transition. My honestly toxic mother reacted badly, claimed that me finally feeling healthy & happy was somehow “rejecting her” and she hasn’t contacted or acknowledged me since I came out to family. Honestly...

It depends? With the obviously insulting ones, I mostly eliminate them from my life. I have no patience for people who gaslight by using their words to say they respect me, when their actions clearly tell me otherwise. TBH, on two occasions with these kind of folks, I laughed in their face. Why shou...

While that is what I was also taught decades ago in public school, recent science actually contradicts the popular view of XX/XY as definitive in the way I was taught. Here’s another article , this one from the editors of Scientific American in 2017: Sex is supposed to be simple—at least at the mole...

Biological sex is determined by chromosomes......gender is determined by society. Respectfully, I find this statement problematic. Not wrong exactly, but a massive oversimplification of something that’s far more complex than either idea indicates. Here’s an excerpt from a 2019 Lancet article on the...

Before my gender transition I wasn't particularly comfortable being nude, not even when alone. It just seemed pointless. I had no idea how uncomfortable I was with my pre-transition body. Once it started changing I eventually found myself actually liking my body! Now, I love being nude at home. Not ...

So glad this thread was resurrected. I turn 58 next week and am finally scheduled for adult assessment at the end of May. So much of what's been posted here is relatable for me. We are strong. That's what's been on my mind lately while completing the pre-eval questionnaire. Reviewing the past throug...

True, both major parties are beholden to varying degrees to corporate interests. However, that's the system we currently have and voting for third party Presidential candidates does nothing to change it. And there is clearly a difference in policy positions and focus for the two major parties - sayi...
