I have 3 HFA children, all with individual and very different training tales from each other. I’ve also had the pleasure of training children whose parents were told not to bother as “they’re too low functioning”! Yes, unbelievable! I put the following together quite a few years ago for a friend wh...

I'm 25 years old and just learned that I might've had, or still have, autism while growing up. I gotta say, it was a beautiful discovery. It brought me answers to questions I never thought to ask before, and those answers integrated with the rest of the knowledge I've acquired over the past 25 year...

As a teacher, I know that important information about kids, including their IEPs is often not shared with us in a timely manner. The beginning of the year is also hard, because even if we have the info, we have over 100 new kids and we have no idea who is who. All this to say, your teacher may not ...

I just started school this week. I have a mainstream English class and my teacher calls on me a lot. She calls on people even though they dont put their hands up. I'm also in the front row. There is a thing in my IEP about not calling on me. I dont think my teacher knows. I always answer the best I ...

Don't worry about your cousins. 1) They're inexperienced punks who try to torture and pick on someone who they know has a disability. Worse, a disabled family member. These are the types who grow up to be slugs, possibly facing time in prison. Don't worry about being left out by them. It's likely g...

I have my cousins staying at my house for the rest of the month. They are visiting from far away. My 2 male cousins constantly make fun of me. My female cousin is very nice to me. I like hanging out with her. I just feel uncomfortable around my other cousins because they make fun of me for everythin...

I have hair that is somewhere in between. It manages to get knotted a lot. Its black and really thick. I don't brush it much to be honest. I only brush it if it starts to look really bad.

I do get special treatment because of my autism. I get extra help at school and I don't have the same expectations at school. Also I don't have to do certain things such as presentations or certain exams. I get extra help in my daily life as well. My parents are also a bit overprotective. They don't...

I am very quiet. I don't feel comfortable with talking in most situations. At school I usually don't talk. I don't feel comfortable doing class discussions. Sometimes teachers randomly choose me to answer a question and I blush, and respond but I usually mix up my words. I hate it. I lose sleep beca...

I don't like eye contact. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Most people who know me are ok with that. It scares me when people get too close to me and talk to me as well. I had a teacher who would do that and I felt that I had to do eye contact. I did but I felt really uncomfortable. I just look down ...

I dislike going to the eye doctor because I feel uncomfortable during the part where I have to do eye contact and when I have to talk to them. I get scared. I wear glasses for reading. They are prescription

I don't know about other people but I am a very slow learner. I have to be shown things multiple times. I also get really frustrated because of this. I also have behavior issues that make learning difficult. I get more focused on anxiety and other things that are bothering me. School is challenging ...

I had a meltdown in public. I was with my aide who I sometimes go to the library with. I woke up feeling not so good already though. My mom wanted me to get out of the house today. It started good but then when I was at the library I started to feel really frustrated and overwhelmed. I think it was ...
