Prior to my retirement from the NHS I worked in an Autism assessment team as a diagnostician. It is comparatively rare to have an openly Autistic clinician in the this kind of service and other clinicians often seemed uncomfortable with my presence especially those that like to talk in terms of &quo...

Well Ive never felt any need to wear an ear ring to signal Im queer! I have a tattoo though. I also have an AU tattoo. I like that these are permanent badges that I had to commit to and cannot be discarded on a whim. https://i.ibb.co/RkN0nXjh/tat1.png https://i.ibb.co/KcKf6qHX/pink-triangle.jpg

My partner is of the same view.

I agree that its more about recognising patterns and a drive to catagorise things.

At most it could be regarded as stereotyping.

I really cant see how it is racism.

Its good to double check our thinking sometimes though.

Stating that ASD as defined by the DSM cannot be diagnosed on the basis that the person can make eye contact shows a breath-taking lack of professional knowledge and competence. There is also the issues of 'diagnostic overshadowing' where more than one issue exists and the overlap of diagnostic feat...

Health professionals - Ive had so many appointments over the years due to autoimmune / EDS issues. I felt anxious about it when I was young but now it doesnt bother me at all. Everyon...

The Nazis labelled us as sexual deviants and linked us to paedophiles during the process of pinning pink triangles to our chests and taking us away to extermination camps. Those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it. The problem is that we often look just like you Mr & Mrs Right Winger - ...

I feel safer because I live in a rural area that would be far enough from the blast zone to survive so I think I would have to worry about fallout though. I live in the rural South West of the UK so blast zones and immediate fallout are not a concern. Problem is, in this interconnected age with cen...

I am sceptical as regards this theory as I am most that have been written by neurotypical 'experts' in Autism.

Monotropism makes far more sense to me - a theory created by actually Autistic people.

Good news all round.

Your right to have realistic expectations. Its so common for people to build all sorts of idealised scenarios in their head.

Relax as best you can and just be yourself and Im sure it will be a worthwhile evening regardless of what the outcome is.

I am 65 and took early retirement last year due to health issues related to hEDS and MCAS. A serious of abusive relationships between the ages of 22 and 57 left me with no assets and a seriously depleted occupational pension fund. I now live on disability and other benefits in addition to a small oc...

Well if we want to talk about hard science the fact is that we all start out as female. Research human development / embryology / genetics. Males are in effect a kind of modified female. My opinion: Its then hardly surprising that a significant number of people feel uncomfortable with the gender tha...

Two thirds of my week is spent 'doing nothing'.

That is how it may appear to anyone observing me I suppose.

However, I am thinking, daydreaming, reflecting and planning (mainly artwork).

I recommend it.
