Good idea for a thread and some interesting channels to check out, thanks! My only input is a bit different as it's a work channel so a bit drier than others have posted but there is tons of interesting stuff going on in the DART/Salvesen Mindroom lab at the University of Edinburgh. Here's the link ...

I only like it if I think I deserve it, like someone at work called a video I made good. They only thought it was good because they don't know how to do it, if anyone with a clue on video production had seen it they'd know how awful it was!

Maybe it's linked to my sense of justice?

I've worked in autism research for a few years now and I don't recognise any of the names listed so I don't really agree that they are the leading autism professionals. Are any of them actually autistic? (I know a couple of them are but it looks like it's just the famous faces which ignores the nume...

Not from the UK, but I can help with some comments on the AQ. One of my biggest problems with the AQ is how often they structure questions as false dichotomies. The theatre vs museum question is a good example, but the best example IMO is the one about focusing on details or big picture. According ...

Just giving this one last bump as the survey will be closing on the 14th October so please spare a few minutes for a fellow autistic person! Thanks.

I still need loads of people for this survey! It's much shorter than previous surveys and doesn't contain anything made by Simon Baron-Cohen! I was also hoping there might be more conversation about how awful the AQ and other screening tools made by non-autistic people that I could throw in the face...

"I prefer to do things with others rather than on my own." A resounding YES for me: an extraverted ......... [excuse me not quoting in full - CloudFront wouldn't let me  ] I wonder whether the obvious problems with the wording of the questions weaken the robustness of the test? It's...

I have actual cases of autistic people scoring 13 on the AQ. It doesn't mean that they are not autistic, just that the AQ (and all these tests) is not designed to test for autism. Autism has no biomarkers meaning it is impossible to (currently) diagnose it on anything physical so all diagnoses are d...

That isn't even an official screening test that I'm aware of (I research age of autism diagnosis).

The much hated Autism spectrum Quotient is the most reliable and it's free online (do the 50 question one, not the short one) or the RAADS-14 is good, but not necessarily free.

It's partially funded by Autism Speaks (read the small print!), they have been very shady about how the samples will be used/stored etc...., one of their 'ambassadors' spent yesterday abusing autistic people on twitter, barely any autistic people were consulted, there is no similar call for NT dna.....

Hi everyone, TL;DR version: if you're 18 or over, from the UK and autistic, please consider doing my survey - https://kentpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1FU9qFuHxPWayEu . Thanks to Cornflake once again for permission to post this. I have one final survey for my masters for which I need 3 times a...

Hi, I have to write a letter as an expression of interest for a role I'm interested in and I would normally address it 'Dear Sir/Madam' but there's a high chance that the recipients might be non binary. So I'm wondering what is the polite way to address a letter to people who might not be sir or mad...

I've used a lot of Bird's work in my studies, it's very interesting, although not as clear cut as the article makes it sound. Alexithymia is not really a condition, it's generally viewed as a trait. You can't really have a diagnosis of alexithymia because it's not in diagnostic manuals, best anyone ...

Thanks everyone. I haven't been online for a couple of days so I'm glad you did the survey Mountain goat, it was entirely designed for people like you. Hi everyone, thanks for participating! traven - you raise an interesting point about back arrows. To my knowledge looking ahead on these things is probably not advised. However, I do apologise about the same old questions :) There was a long discussion about it in the thread for the previous survey ...
