But how do you know this is a result of nature and not nurture? We have yet to live in a society without coercion and oppression. Perhaps in a truly free society, people would develop in better ways?

I think people forget that the Oscars are an industry event. They were gradually turned into a public spectacle, which was great for media companies, but they are still ultimately events by and for Hollywood. They are not a popularity contest. The winners and losers are decided by the academy for th...

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, the remaster of Ninja Gaiden Black. I heard Black was harder, but I never owned the original Xbox. Sigma was still plenty challenging, and I got stuck on the first boss fight for quite a long time, but I was a fair bit younger at the time. Really though, the game is just strict a...

I would encourage you to go for it. If it sucks, you can quit later. If you don't try, you'll never know. It might help you focus on something else and stop ruminating so much.

Sexual incompatibility was never important to me. I care about substantive things Without getting too graphic, I enjoy sexual experiences and while it isn't the only, or most important thing, it is still a big thing. I definitely wouldn't call good sex an insubstantive part of a relationship. But I...

All critical race theory is, is the acknowledgement that race is a social construct. As opposed to an essential part of someone's biology, like a "race realist" would tell you. And a recognition/critique of racism in societal institutions. It is not about any individual being a victim. Jus...

As a leftist, I object to being put in with the people choosing this shooting as a hill to die on in the police violence debate. In this specific instance, the use of lethal force seemed justified. An epidemic of unjustified police violence doesn't mean this instance was bad.

Teaching tiny babies about critical race theory and modern understandings of gender theory is based. That said, I do think the conflation in terminology of whiteness and white people is terrible optics and makes people think that the left is trying to destroy white people. We should find another wor...

Characters just need to be interesting, and that's it. They need to have an interesting lifestyle, be charming, be crazy, something. Characters that hit generic "likeability" beats and/or have incredibly standard arcs are boring. I don't want to read or watch a character designed with the ...

Paprika (an anime R rated) is one of my favorite movies so of course I'm all for more adult animation. Is there a way to refer to adult animation that doesn't sound so pornographic? Anyway... I'm all for it personally, but culturally we just don't seem ready for it in the West. The only R rated anim...

[color=black]Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956) I love that movie! It's the epitomy of the 50s alien invasion film. I will admit, I largely love it for its kitsch value, but some of the effects are genuinely well done for the time. I did find the scenes where composited UFOs shoot down footage of ...

I wish I'd never watched "Whiplash", not because it was bad but because of how angry it made made me. Firstly because of the implication that abusive teachers are what it takes to achieve excellence. Secondly, if jazz really has become the academic, mechanical, contest-driven thing shown ...

Batman movies: Haven't seen them in ages, remember loving Dark Knight and being disappointed by Rises
Inception: Great filmmaking, but ultimately a less inspired version of Paprika
Interstellar: Dissapointing, silly ending
Tenet: I genuinely really liked it and don't get the hate
