Forum: In-Depth Adult Life Discussion   Topic: I don't know where I belong in this world

This may seem like a sad post but it's not. It just means I have a lot to figure out. Life isn't supposed to be easy. I don't feel like I have a real identity. Everything I value in myself is somewhat influenced by the external, our culture, by other people's thoughts. What makes me feel like I have...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is anyone envious of other families/parents/relationships?

Not really. I used to envy successful motivated people, because my work ethic has always been horrific in part due to my upbringing. I used to envy naturally beautiful women because I wanted to look like them. I can't say I've envied people simply for their families or relationship success. My paren...

My strategy: Eat healthy, stay hydrated, stretch, exercise, meditate, and refuse to give up childhood hobbies.

There's no option to avoid aging but there is an option to reverse certain aspects of aging.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What are some comebacks to deal with an ableist person?

I usually treat them the way I treat a narcissist in that I calmly criticize them for lacking empathy, insight, and being part of what's wrong with society. It depends on the ableist though. Many people are just as*holes plain and simple, and ableism can be an extension of that. Most of the time a j...

schwa has long been the bane of my existence. One language theory is that the brain has a lexicon and a rule database. The lexicon remembers things exactly as you have seen them before. The rule database can help you recognize words you have never seen by applying rules. There is no rules on how to...

Definitely frustrating. I even find it dehumanizing. But I understand how their mind works in this sort of situation. People are generally not very good at knowing how to deal with someone whose behavior and personality is so different to their own. I even find it much easier to relate to NTs than N...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How do you feel about "small talk" and "starters"?

First let me define small talk just to relieve any potential ambiguity. By small talk I mean any kind of ordinary familiar conversation, often involving personal questions. As for conversation starters, I am referring to the use of low effort verbal cliches to begin conversation. "How are you&q...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Not knowing that someone is autistic

It's generally easy for me to tell if someone is autistic. I've assumed many many times among people I've met online and seem to be right in the vast majority of instances. Why do I find it easy? Because I have gained insight through inward comparison and via outside observation. I'd say some of the...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Are all people with autism picky about food

Myself and my sister are both autistic. She's VERY picky, and I'm the opposite. I have a texture issue with some foods, but for the most part I'll eat any sort of conventional meal even if it's a little bland. My parents are far pickier than I am and they are both NTs, which leaves me being the only...

I don't feel like I gain anything out of caffeine that a NT wouldn't. However I do know that autism seems to have high comorbidity with ADHD, so I can definitely see it benefiting some of us beyond the usual benefits. It may be even more effective when paired together with L-Theanine for a stronger ...

Let me also be clear I'm generalizing and I'm aware there are many of us who spell very poorly, as well as many NTs who are very literate.

I'm not sure if this is the right board, if so I apologize and hope it can be moved. I just checked and I believe there's a subforum for writing, so I apologize for posting it here. Anyways, I noticed something very interesting, which is that non-autistic people tend to be very poor spellers. They s...

I'm curious what people think of the republican primary debate which Trump did not take part in. David Pakman streamed the debate which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/ccPDCzJuLgI Here are some of the takeaways: https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/23/politics/takeaways-republican-debate/index.html I'm ...
