This is one of my pet hates. When news readers pronounce Barcelona as Barthelona or Valencia as Valenthia but they never pronounce Paris as Paree or Amsterdam as Omsterdom but pronounce Newcastle as Newcarstle and Bath as Barth. It sounds like a snobish lack of education to me. They say Valenthia t...

Thanks, Witch. As I said I know I pronounce some words wrong (or at least in a non-standard way), so if I went around correcting others I'd be opening myself up to people coming down hard on me. I could change my pronunciations but that's not easy to do consistently when you've been pronouncing word...

I often get annoyed by people pronouncing words differently than I do. It doesn't bother me as much if they have a noticeably different accent than me, but if they don't it is like fingernails on a chalkboard. This happens even when I know that their pronunciation is correct and mine is wrong. If I ...

Yes, but only the fundamentalists. I consider the fundamentalists of any religion to be a threat, and that should have been an option in your poll. I agree, though in recent years at least fundamentalist Muslims have been more destructive than other fundamentalists. Fundamentalist Christians have b...

I don't believe there are any nice guys.

That's blunt and sad and all encompassing, but true.

What have the men in your life done that was so bad? And how many of them have there been that you think you can generalize their behavior to the entire male population of the world?

http://www.heartless-bitches.com/rants/niceguys/ng.shtml That's an interesting site, but I don't think it gives the complete picture. For a different point of view see http://www.laddertheory.com/ A lot of it seems like a joke but it does contain some nuggets of truth. I think the whole truth is so...

I feel really excited and otakuish after hearing the word.

Oh! Duh! I guess I was pretty thick not to figure that out given your user name! My only excuse is that I didn't pay attention to your user name until now.

that people often say a man with long hair and a beard looks like Jesus, but you never hear anyone say that a man with a ponytail looks like George Washington? Reminds me of that sixties poster of G W with a 'crewcut' that said "Get a haircut Hippy ! !" I would like to see that! I tried googling "G...

I don't know if this is the most accurate explanation but it is my favorite. :D

Hee.....reading dictionaries was, and still is, one of my favourite hobbies. :) I hated looking up words in the dictionary when I had to, during my elementary and secondary school days. Now that there is no one forcing me to, I do kind of enjoy it. Now, I mostly look up words online, but can still ...

Come to think of it, I do have a certain fondness for words that begin with X or Z. I remember xiphias being my favorite word for a while after I learned it. I also like xylophone, zebra, zoology, and zephyr.

In the interests of neutrality, I will not mention the word explicitly. I should say, that every time I hear a certain word that starts with the letter "A", I dance for joy. What is your favorite word, and how does it make you feel? Can you give us a hint such as what it means or any synonyms it mi...

I don't have a single word that I fixate on but there are certain phrases that get stuck in my head that I repeat to myself when I'm alone. Mostly they come from movies, books, songs, tv shows, etc. I often say they several times using different accents each time. The two that immediately come to mi...

because Jesus was a figure to people around the world for years and years and G.W was an American figure and therefore not as applicable to others? I just used Washington as an example as he was the first one who came to mind. I could have just as easily said King George III, King Louis XVI, Mozart...
