Yes. I think that makes perfect sense. As divergent individuals, advocating for ourselves is an essential skill. People don't know that we're different unless we tell them, and we don't get what we need if we don't ask for it. Many people aren't comfortable with that; we live in a society that is no...

I get it Jakki, We've all had to struggle with doctors who think they know what they don't know. I've been lucky; I have a full-service hospital ten minutes from me. That dosen't mean they all always get it. I am very fortunate to have found a really great bunch now. I am so sorry for your headaches...

Welcome, KeepWaiting. It is good to have you here. I'm pretty new to myself. I know that as a person on the spectrum, I offend people frequently without intending to. My brain just doesn't work the same as most other peoples' Around here, I think most of us understand and often think the same way. I...

Anything worth doing is worth doing badly. Unkindness is not a deterrent to unkindness. The other person is usually thinking the same way, so where will it stop? I like to try to always treat everyone as if they are giving me 100% of their best effort and their best thinking. I don't know what is mo...

Wow! Isabella. It is so great to meet you. I could practically write a monograph on all we have in common. I have an MA in English language literature, and I am just starting another bachelor's degree in philosophy. I have been hip-deep in Plato for a while now. I adore Shakespeare, and Winnie-the-P...

Hi Nikki! Nice to meet you. Thanks for standing up. You sound like a really fun person; We have some things in common. Spanish is my first second language, and I learned quite a bit of French by osmosis because my mother was always watching French in Action lessons. And I love English language liter...

For anyone who may have doubts that they belong here: It seems that our understanding of ASD is constantly evolving. It used to be Autism or Asperger’s syndrome. Now, the conditions are combined into a spectrum, and they call it Autism Spectrum Disorder. I recently read somewhere (I don’t remember w...

Hi Max, To be honest, I am pretty new around here myself, and I certainly can't speak for anyone else. But I will say this: My understanding of the nature and purpose of this site is that it is for people who feel different, and who are feeling at home here. Neurodiversity is not exclusive to ASD, a...

Hi Mr. Lowe, I guess I am your target audience; 58 years old and diagnosed just a few months ago. I guess we technically don’t use the term anymore, but I identify as Asperger’s. Clearly on the spectrum. I have, by and large, not been terribly successful in my life. I am pretty smart, do great in ac...
