Poor kids. Sounds like they are doing their best to keep it together at school.

Do they have vocal tics? My son screams a lot, but it is not voluntary. He tries very hard to control this in public. It seems to be a torrent of screaming and other tics when he's at home and able to "relax".

Can they allow her to do some other physical activity besides playing competitive games? I'm NT and got sick every PE class when we did sports. In middle school, I still had this problem and my PE teacher was good enough to let me work on something else on the sidelines, instead of play the game.

My son was having a lot of problems at school at that age. As a consequence, his behavior at home became more severe. Also, his behavior at school was quite bad as well.

I would not let my son be friends with that kid any longer. It sounds like the other kid is not really a friend to your son, so the interaction is pointless. Your son might be upset, but you are the parent and you are allowed to decide who comes into the house. Maybe try to find your son another fri...

I told my son at around age 7. He cried out of relief and was overjoyed to learn he wasn't the only one. He knew he was different and having a diagnosis made him realize there are millions of people out there on the spectrum. The first question out of his mouth when I told him the diagnosis was, "Th...

My son is 11 and he has anxiety issues. I am not trying medication because he reacts poorly to medication, in general. If there's a side effect to a drug, he tends to get it and some of the side effects of medications are worse than what you are trying to treat. I wanted to chime in about the tics. ...

My son's dentist used laughing gas twice with him at around age 7 or 8. It worked well. My son has a problem with needles, so no shots to the gum. He also has a lot of problems with sound. The laughing gas must have relaxed him enough that he was okay with the sound of the drill. I was somewhat conc...

You should ask them which IQ test they are using. If you get the name of it, you can find a description of it on the internet. I don't think IQ tests are helpful when it comes to determining school services or placement. Your child may test well and they can use that as a basis for denying special s...

My son has a problem with aggression, which I can't really explain because he's actually very kind hearted. He has impulse issues and I've seen him haul off and hit a kid for no reason. The inappropriate laughter is something my son would do too.

I wish I had an answer to this problem.

My son had similar language delays. His articulation (the way he pronounces letters) was always within the "normal" range, but his receptive and expressive language was delayed. He only had 3 words at age 2 and two of those were made-up words. He did a year of language therapy and he made a lot of p...

Is he allowed to record the lectures? If he could do that, maybe his mom can listen along with him and help him make notes.

A lot of times, teachers aren't that great. You can have the best IEP plan, but some teachers will never "get it".

So much for optimism. It happened again last night. The strangest part is that it always happens at exactly 1 hour and 15 minutes after he falls asleep. Last night was a little different because when he woke up screaming and crying, he was fully awake and recognized me right away and responded quic...

Too bad for any homeschool kids with Aspie parents. Those kids really need to be in school to learn appropriate social behavior-to learn to fit in and to learn to be a leader and to learn to learn and get along with peers. Goodness, especially for your typical kids, let them have friends! Public sc...

My son found out when I found out. He was 7 at the time. It wasn't even a big deal to him and it's still not. He already knew he was different. When he got the "label", he was thrilled that there were so many other people out there like himself. Without the label, I think he thought he was the only ...
